Nice looking plane andrew I am currently building this airplane as well and planning on putting a dle 20cc gas engine on it when it finally comes out. I also plan to use some mini servo's in place of the standard size to save weight since they have some high torque mini's that have the same torque as a standard bb servo at half the weight.

Have any of you guys had missing fuse parts? I'm about to start on the fuse but am missing EXTF06,F08,F02 AND F03. Bummer! I have sent an email to GP and hope they'll send them to me.

But I'll take a quick look and get back to you today. That is a bummer, but I would think GP will make it right.

I'm not that far (just starting on the wing), and I'm one of those guys that doesn't inventory all the parts in the box.

It looks like they left out the "Die-Cut Ply #1" bundle in yours.

drube,
My canopy was creased when it came in. I called Great Planes and they sent one out no charge. I am sur they will take care of you.

Drube,
I have had a few rinkles come up. I took a cheapo heat gun and put it on low, and held it a ways away from the covering. Just enough to get the covering to shrink, but not mess up the paint. Still looks great.

I'm guessing that it depends on how much exhaust wets down the bottom. Without the tubes I can see saturation of the inside of that part of the belly pan.

Hi Brian
Well things are both good and not so good with the extra. The plane is a great flyer and lots of fun, tracks straight down the runway for take offs and lands alot more easily than I initialy anticipated and I really love the Saito 125.
However, practicing some low(ish) level crosswind manoevers a few weeks ago started the downwind approach for landing. Glanced momentarily at the timer and when I resighted on the plane it was belly up on a downward trajectory - thump. Don't know what happened but a club member mentioned that two planes were lost in a similar place the day before - all of us flying on 2.4Ghz. Anyway not sure I will take my eyes of a plane again however briefly.[&o]
I initially thought the plane was toast and packed it away to reclaim the hardware. There was nothing left of the fuselage in front of the canopy and the wing was snapped close to the fuselage. After a day or two I ambitiously decided to rebuild the plane, mainly because it was such a great flyer. So I ordered the fuselage sides from Great Planes and set about repairing the wing while I waited.
The wing is now finished, ready for recovering and the fuselage is at the point of re-attaching the reclaimed empanage.
I will start a repair thread on crash and rebuild for those interested but here are some prelim photos.

Very sorry to hear about the crash....I have been following this thread for a long time and I know how much you enjoyed building and flying this plane. I'm glad you decided to rebuild it; I would like to follow the rebuild thread; if you make it, I will come <g>. I'm also glad (hoping) that your Saito engine survived the crash - they are such wonderful engines; I have a Saito 1.15 on a Twist 60 and I love it.
Regards,
Mike

Andrew,
Will you post a link to that rebuild here?
I am happy you are not giving up on it. I am seriously considering ordering one as well. I hope Hobbico will keep it going for a while. It is nice being able to buy replacement parts...
I thought there were issues with the knife edge on this airplane. Is this the case? Will it hold a KE?
Be sure to make templates.

Knife edge flight had a significant belly tuck. I could fly it on the sticks ok, but added a rudder to elevator mix to make it easier. I had added 1" to the rudder I don't know if this contributed to the belly tuck or not but the plane certainly can do decent knife edge flight.
I have kept all the "frames" after releasing the parts for outlines, this enabled me to fabricate the necessary wing ribs. Estimating the lighting holes is really easy to do.
Mike,
The saito seems to have survived with nothing but a good coating of dirt. I will strip it and have a good look anyway, but all seems good. Thanks for looking in and I am glad you have enjoyed the thread - have you seen my Tiger Moth thread a little further down. Now there is a serious build.

The belly tuck could simply be a balance issue. I'm sure it flies great as is, but an adjustment may fix a lot of the tuck issue.
There is probably a little pressure on the rudder too, so it most likely won't all go away.
Now that I know it will KE, I think I'll pull the trigger. I was getting told from everyone I knew that the airplane wouldn't do this.

I still had the balance set slightly nose heavy so I am sure this played a role. Even so I could knife edge circle using only rudder input
. i am sur ethat with a more rearward CG that the belly tuck will be less pronouced. In AdrianM's thread on this model he reflects on being able to virtually knife edge loop - only inhibited by the piolt aprehension.
Go ahead and get the kit while you can - it will be good to compare to your Goldberg one anyway
....
Here is the link to the rebuild (I hope).

Hi all,
I am building a GP Extra 300s .60 kit and would like to save some weight .
Does anybody know of carbon fiber landing gear that will fit in this plane?
Thanks
