I was just wanting to see if there are any kit builders that live in my area that use RCU. I live in west central Ga near the small town of Thomaston. I would like to learn the craft from someone and just to have someone close by home to chat with here maybe. I am working in Afghanistan so I am only home for short periods of time. I have learned a lot of stuff here but there is nothing like the hands on approach.
Thanks

DGUY: I live on the West Coast in Oregon so cannot be of much help when you have time at home, but I can help you build from a distance if that would work for you. Going to www.towerhobbies.com you can purchase a kit that is available and have all the pieces needed to build the plane. Not sure if you have a local hobby shop where you live where a few needed items could be purchased.
I am a retired aircraft mechanic from Horizon Airlines in Portland, Oregon who has been in the modeling hobby for a long time. With 15 years of stockpiling kits and engines( I am still buying more engines and planes), I have plenty of choices to choose from. Just purchased an ARF( kit not available) of the F-22 Raptor Fighter aircraft, and assembly is progressing. Several problems had to be solved in the assembly, but with a lot of spare parts, the problems were delt with.
Let me know what type of model you are looking for. Get back to me when time permits.
Cheers!!!

Don't know when you will be returning (SAFELY), but watch for notices of the "Perry" swap shop - held in Perry GA, and if you are in the states, might be an EXCITING time (and bring $$$$)
It is the BEST swap shop East of the Mississippi (sure would like to know of one that good WEST of the Mississippi).
PS Thanks for serving our county!!!!

Thanks guys for the responses. I just hate to see no one from my "neck of the woods responded so far. I will proceed with a build with the help of the great guys here. Tailskid I have planed my next R&R around the Perry swapmeet. I only live about 50mi from Perry, and I am saving my dollars just for that reason.
Thanks Guys

I live in north Ga ., outside Athens. I've been building models all my life, and have been involved in R/c since 1979.
I'd be glad to help you in any way. I'm a member of a very active flying club, with 62 members. In my hanger are a Great Planes Big Stick 40, a Phoenix Extra 330S with an ASP .90 eng., a Sportsman Aviation Corby Starlet with a Magnum 70 four stroke that is ready to take to the air for the 1st time, and I just started building a Top Flite Contender, I flew one of these years ago and they fly great.
Let me know what I can do for you, my Dad was an Army man for 27 years. Keep safe and come home soon.

DGUY, The key is to start with simple kits. Trainers have the best most detailed instructions and the most pictures. With them you can learn the basic skills of building. The Sig 4 Star you saw in another thread of mine is a simple kit and not a bad one to start with either if you prefer something a little sportier than a basic trainer. I for one fly a 50cc Extra 260 and a 35cc Ultimate bipe but am currently building trainers and sport planes to get my building skills up to par with my flying. As you progress to more advance builds, just as with flying more advanced aircraft, the manufacturer expects that you already know the basics and do not require the details. With that said, if you see a kit you like, wether your ready to build it or not, buy it and put it in the closet. These kits are getting harder to find every year.
God bless and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I would like to build one over here but it would be a little hard for me. Not a lot of time, and how would I get it home without it getting broke all to pieces. I have bid on a Astro Hog on ebay. From what I can tell SIG makes some of the best kits. I would like to build a bi-plane. You guys got any advice on that?

The hog bipe is the way I was leaning plus I have read a build thread here on one. Is it a easy build? I have pretty good skill with my hands I like to whittle and stuff like that. It is the those little tricks of the trade so to speak that I don't know.

The Hog Bipe is a really good building kit. The instructions are first rate. The wood quality and cutting is very good which makes this an enjoyable plane to build. Also, it's a great first biplane to get going on. I love the Sig Pig's. In fact, the picture in my avatar is from a Hog Bipe!!!
