Have flown a Hog Bipe with both an .80 4-stroke and .91 4-stroke.

The .80 did all right. I prefer the .91. In my $.02, I think that the .72 may be a bit light. However, I have seen some new .72 4-strokes that are real horses, so you may be able to get away with it.

Take care,

Default Hog Bipe

I fly mine with a Saito 91, very nice combination coupled with the 4-stroke sound.

Cheers!

I had the Saito 72 in mine and it flew fine. Scale type flying. If you enjoy this kind of flying, and I do, then you will like this combo. I later traded off the Saito 72 and all I had left was a Super Tiger 51 2 stroke. This also flew fine, very scale. I would not buy a new motor if you have a 72 that needs a home.

I also have a Saito 91 in my Hog Bipe. Plenty of reserve power and balanced out perfectly...

I am running a Saito 80 GK and a 14x6 prop. Way over powered for my taste. Unlimited verticle I think. Although I can't see that far so never went that high.

Here's mine! OS .91FX

Flew it yesterday, as a matter of fact. Rotate 90 degrees off the runway and straight up as far as the eye can see.

I like the power, and I also like the sound of a .91 throttled back.

I have been flying my Hog bipe with an OS70 and it flys very well if you want to barnstorm on a Sunday afternoon. Takeoffs are done at about 3/4 throttle for scale takeoffs and if you nail it, the bipe gets off very smartly. If you want to burn up the sky, drop in the 91. However, the 72 will fly it in fine fashion.

I fly mine with an Saito .91 A couple of clicks over idle keeps it flying nicely. I can't see how a .72 wouldn't pull this nicely through the air, but you'll have to pay attention to build the tail lightly. Servos in the tail, or locating the battery back there may help preventing the addition of weight.

The instruction state a .65 4 stroke to a .91. But it sounds like the 65 would be to weak.

I think we are so used to flying overpowered planes that any engine on the minimum side of the manufacturer's reccomendation is automatically discounted as being too small. Like Tony C says, I think you will be fine.

I've got a bud that uses a surpass 70 on his and it is plenty from what I see, plenty of power to fly faster than scale.

Miloh.
