Default The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.

I'm not sure if this is old news, but I checked Carl Goldberg ltd's website today, and the ultimate bipe (both the kit and the ARF) has been DISCONTINUED!!! I went ahead and ordered one from tower, they still have some " Limited Quantities" left. I might put another one on my credit card! I'm new to kit building, but I've owned one of these planes (bought it RTF) and absolutely loved it. I'll keep building smaller, cheaper kits until I develope the necessary skills to get it built. Anyways, lets hear some thoughts on the matter, or information that I may have missed!

Another good one, available for the moment, is NE Aero's "Zeph-air" 120 bipe. I just ordered one today, but I called first to make sure they're on hand. The closeout price is $160 for the kit.

By the way, they might make a limited run of the Twin-Air 45 kit in January, if there's enough interest. They ran a closeout price, and exhausted their stock, but people have been calling.

Good luck,
Dave Olson

That's really sad! I bought one about 3 weeks ago because I could almost taste it getting discontinued. I've owned 5 over the years. Arguably the best flying 120 size bipe designed by one of the world's greatest engineers (Dave Patrick).

Well do GreyBeard. Is there a certain paper that is best for this?

For the best templates, go to your friendly local Cabinet Shop and pick up some scrap Laminate (most of you call it Formica). You can saw it on your band saw, and sand it to shape. It lasts forever too.

Wow!Thanks for the heads up - Ijust ordered one from Tower as well.I noticed the ARFis already marked "discontinued" and looks like no more in stock. I prefer the kit anyway.

Thanks and yes - I have been ordering a lot of plans too

I just clicked on the kit on Tower Hobbies site and it now says the kits are out of stock an unavailable. So..... looks like a legend is now gone. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of these kits!!

Just taking a look at Tower and all that leaves is the Cub and Chippy from the CG line other than a couple of trainer models. I suggest that if you want one of these you better buy one. If they copped the Ultimate these can't be far behind.

No problem about the heads up y'all, I felt it was my civic duty...haha. Ken, if you poke around on the net with google or yahoo you can find hobby shops and places like graves rc still have a few of these kits in stock. The pickins are gettin' slim! Here's a few links to places that apparently still have some of these kits left :

http://www.toysonics.com/manufacture...d=70&catid=274

http://www.gravesrc.com/GBGA53_GOLDB...O_p/gbga53.htm

http://www.hobbyfever.com/product_in...31cca8d4ec2f95

...just a few that I found quickly, there's probably more out there to be found!

The kit was $200.00. For templates I just use any bond paper, my wood working club has it on a roll so I just pull what i need. If it's a plane that I think people will want a copy of then I will use Seetemp. Fromica sounds pretty good. I often go to Costco and pick up those big sheets of chip board, the 1/16 inch card board you find on the bottom of there pallets. Templates don't need to be fancy. I just made up a sheet for a little electric plane I'm building so if someone asks for a copy I can just have the sheet copied at the same time with the plans, very easy, I just trace the parts as I pull them. The smaller the sheet the cheaper the copy so I tend to crowd the parts. I have used my own printer for the instructions.

Its one of my favorite flying planes. I wonder what the number is for what is sellable, to tower/hobbico, and what is too low volume. There are plenty of people who want one, maybe not 2000 a year, but it should not disappear. I will volunteer to take the dies and materials to make more kits.

Wow .. i thought that kit would have stayed on for a long time , glad i have one left !

on a side note , is anyone local to West Central Florida interested in a Dave Patrick models ultimate (60") bipe , with a YS F 1.20 on it ? the bipe is in rough shape but is all there and it's straight .

servos and all , don't have space for it in the house and it's taking up flying room in the van .

engine is perfect .

dirt cheap , will separate !

Happy new Year !!!

Yup another classic gone by the way side. It would sure be nice if the RC monopoly machine would leave us with a few of the good ones. It is a crying shame, it really is. Dave

They will start showing up on EBay....keep your eyes open. If not the plane, plans will show up for about 15 to 20 bucks.

Another Great kit to end up on on the chopping block of the r/c king company. This is one of the best flying bipes that I ever had. I miss the bucker too!

Guys, the writing is on the wall and it's in BOLD. There are NO Goldberg planes in Tower's print catalog. Get your Chippy and Tiger now... Hobbico is phasing CG out like they did Lanier and every other kit mfg they've bought. []
