I'm just about finished with my latest Ultra Sport build, a US 40. I'm just wondering if anyone's interested in buying it, ready to cover w/OS 55AX. The wing has been joined and the center glassed, all sanding has been done. The tail feathers will need to be attached. It's still easily shipped. All hardware to finish the plane after covering will be provided, hinges, control horns, etc. I made 3 modifications to the kit. The canopy has been moved back 3", the outboard 2" of aileron were cut off and attached to the wing and the tail wheel that came with the kit has been scrapped and a 1/4" ply plate built into the fuse to mount a Dubro semi-scale tailwheel assembly. Oh yeah, it's a taildragger. All you need to do is add your covering of choice and radio gear. The engine is just over 1 year old and a very good running engine with about a gallon of 15% Cool Power ran thru it. I think it will be a great match to the US40. I'm already thinking of what's next to build and decided to see if anyone wanted to buy this one.

Hey all, I'd like to take #151 if i could.

I just aquired an almost complete kit from my good friend and pastor Tom Isaacson. The story is a great one, and very special to me at least. He got me started in RC about a year and a half ago by helping me to build a Telemaster 40 kit. That whole time he had this US60 sitting on a shelf, waiting to be finished. It was so tough concentrating on my tele with this sitting right behind me! I finished the tele, and had a great year + flying it. I had been planning on trying to buy the US from him for a little while now, because he just doesn't have the time to get to it, and he was getting frusterated not being able to see it fly. Well my father in law and I went up to our church gym to fly our Night Vapors and Pastor I was there with a new quadcopter toying around. Between batteries we were chatting and he said, "come outside, ive got a question for you." we got out there and he opens the side door of the church van and what do I see but the Ultra Sport sitting there on the seat! He says, "Could you use this? I'm just never going to get to it and i hate to see it sit." "Absolutely!" i said! He had noticed how much i had been eyeing it up during my tele build. He wont take any money for it, but in honor of him and his beloved for Michigan State (he's from Michigan and loves the team) I'm going to cover it in Michigan Blue and Yellow.

At any rate, I dont mean to ramble, but I've been reading through this thread and am getting more and more excited to get this thing flying!

That's a great story. Welcome to the brother hood.

My second plane after my trainer was an Ultra Sport 60 that I built while traveling and working the summer of 1992. The first couple of flights were nerve racking but the Ultra Sport was such a great flying plane I fell in love with it. The Ultra Sport has remained my favorite plane through the years. I have never flown another plane with such a "locked in" feeling as the Ultra Sport.

I think you will also fall in love with this plane. Put a nice, reliable engine on it like an OS .61 or .75 and it will fly circles around just about any plane at the field.

rctmpilot,
Michigan State colors are Green and White. Michigan is Blue and Yellow. If he is a State fan he will know the difference!

US 40 ready for maiden flight Had some issues with the tail feathers I used from an escapade 40 ARF that I found on the bargain table though. the holes in the Horn are bigger than standard so I had to use some ball links.

It looks great...from a distance, can't really tell because the pictures are too small.

Default Das Ultra Sport

I know, not much imagination involved here. I still think it looks good, my youngest grandson loves it.

Very true.

I was going to sell this one but there was no interest. Must be the time of year. It should be a great flying plane. However, I'm now getting this sideways look from the wife. She seems to think that 17 ready to fly planes are overkill.

Come on KaP2011 you must be joking, you are only ahead of me by 4 planes ready to fly, great now I have to build and get ready 5 more planes so I can keep up with you lol. Ultra Sports, you either love em or hate em, I love every one I have ever owned. I have a US 60 that I bulid back in 1991 still flying today and its my oldest flying plane in my hangar.

I built my first US 60 in 1991, I traveled for work and built the plane on the table in motel rooms at night and on weekends. (you can always find time and a place to build if you really want to) Covered it in the black and silver scheme like on the box. It was my second plane after my trainer. After my nerves settled I loved it. It made my erratic flying look good. I quickly learned that black only looks good in pictures. This is my 4th Ultra Sport, I sold 2. I may love the way a plane flys but I never get attached to them, I've crashed way too many.
