Default Robart Cub Gear Covering

I bought a set of Robart 689 Cub Gear to put on a 1/5 SIG Cub. Can anyone give me an pointers on covering the gear sides?

Thanks!

Are you talking about the boots or bungee covers? my wife made some for me out of thin nylon with drawstrings. I also used small o-rings to hold them where I wanted them and help hold the drawstings inside. A Website called the Cub Den has them available for purchase too, like 10 bucks a set I think, hope I helped... the open triangle section can be filled with light balsa using CA and then sand it smooth with the tubes, if you are using fabric you might be able to just make it stick to the tubes too, but Monokote probably needs the balsa to stick to, worked well for me anyway.

I did a little work to my 1/4 scale Cub gear before I covered them with Koverall. The ends of the tubes needed to be rounded off and filled. I covered the gear with the Koverall and painted them with the rest of the plane.

As mentioned above, use whatever covering you are using on the plane and fill the triangular area with balsa.

I was able to cover the tubes using solartex without balsa but it took a bit of effort. The covering really doesn't stick to the tubes very well so I carefully did one side using quite a bit of heat then installed the second side which locks the covering on. Only after the second side was done could I shrink the covering.

Using balsa sounds like a good technique.

What are the sizes (or size) of the "O" rings you use to hold the upper/lower part of the gear together?

remember mine was a home made set for a 1/6 scale Goldberg Cub( a little smaller), believe it or not I used a combination of small Sig rubber bands and "Goodies" hair bands from Wally World... dont laugh! it worked great! I would go to Harbor Freight and buy the O-Ring assortment (8 bucks or so) and experiment. It takes more force than you think to make the bungees work right. Dont use too many though as it will have no spring, put it on the ground and roll it out to get a feel for the right amount. I see that on pictures of the Robart gear they use 4 O-rings it looks like, 2 on each keeper. I used very small O-rings to keep the bungee covers where I wanted them, invisible if you use black material.

Sorry to take so long in responding. I was interested in how to cover the triangles. I have the gear already painted to match the airplane and was trying to decide what to do with the triangles before assembly.

Thanks to all!
