I should get around to measuring the parts on what is left of my lane so I can get the parts the correct size from the templates. So far what I have is not accurate, and I'm missing the forward pieces starting at the Cabane from the crash, but soon will have laser cut parts. Would be great of someone has an inventory list of all the stock on the box.

Default Wing hold down modification?

New to this forum. Just acquired a partially finished ARF (stabs attached). I am looking at the factory installed bottom wing hold down block, the hole does not align with the pre-drilled hole in the wing. Also, it is a 6-32 bolt. Throughout my history of flying RC (since 1976) I have used nylon 1/4-20 bolts. So.... is it appropriate for this ARF (this is my first ARF) to redrill the hole(s) to A) line up and B) increase size to 1/4-20? Has anyone had issues with the pre-installed block with regards to alignment, 1 vs 2 bolts or requiring additional reinforcement? A single bolt makes me a little nervous. Thanks in advance.

I would probably do the 1/4x20 also. Been a few years since I had the ARF. I think I used the stock setup but mine lined up.

1 bolt front and back should be enough, I'm using 6mm nylon bolts on mine (not ARF) and it has been uneventful since its first flight over 10 years ago. Never had to replace the bolts.

to be clear I am referring to the lower wing. Front has two dowels and rear has one bolt in the center of the trailing edge.

The kit only uses two skinny bolts right down the center of the wing. Doesn't need more than that, the cabane pulls the top down, the struts bind them both together to make a solid 2 wing structure. One dowel for alignment and one bolt in the rear is more than enough to secure them.

I have also the ARTF version and it has been powered by a SAITO FA-125, an OS 120FS and now by an OS 120AX two stroke and the original retaining system worked perfectly. In my model screw and retaining block aligns perfectly, but I do not remember screw size. I may confirm when I arrive home this evening.

Default Landing Gear Dimensions Needed

Hi All,

I recently purchased a CG Ultimate kit as 3rd owner. The 1st owner took all landing gear pieces (wires, wheel pants, etc.) out of the kit. If thinking about replacing with aluminum or fiber gear, what dimensions would I be possibly looking at? (Height - fuse bottom to axle, axle to axle, and possible needed mounting base - width x length). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul D.

Sounds like you don't have the plans, either...? You can find them on Outerzone (https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=5496).

Thanks tih for the outerzone links, I do have the plans but have sealed them in the box (sealed the box in plastic with a dryer sheet due to a slight mold smell).

The plans however, do not show the dimensions (or all of the bends) of the landing gear wire or the wheel to wheel width of the landing gear. This is why I was hoping to get possible dimensions on landing gear.

Thanks,
Paul D.

rutanman The stock wire LG has the dimensions of:

Base: 150mm
Total height: 115mm
Total spread: 400mm

I replaced mine with a Graphtech #114 (for AeroWorks 25% Edge 540) composite landing gear which has a height of approx 160mm, but that does not appear to be available any more. You can check their website at https://graphtechrcshop.com/ and see if anything comes close to those dimensions, or drop them an email. They were very help full when I went looking for a replacement back in 2009. An other alternative is to check with https://www.tntlandinggear.com as they might have something that fits, or they can do custom gears as well.

For the LG mounting base I just replaced the original weak mount with a more sturdy plywood piece - think it was a 5mm thickness. It has held up nicely since 2009 flying off grass.

Paul, although I didn´t opened this thread, some years ago I found it was a bit forgotten and nobody seemed to control the member numbers, so I decided doing that and, since then, I am giving them even when I made some tidy and order to the numbers I explained how a new member might add himself! Anyway is an honour that some friends ask new members to wait to me giving a new number and same it is giving it to you. As the list has run out of not used numbers, you are assigned a new one: member number #137.

Best Regards.

Hello everybody!
I bought a CG Ulti kit from a club member. $ 260, some wood is warped, but what the heck. Can hopefully start building in March and an RCGF/Stinger 20cc will be installed.
Who has experience with the installation of 20cc engines?

A 10-year thread!!
Must first read through everything.

How do you become an Ultimate Brother?
Best regards
Fred

Fred, you simply only have to ask showing interest on the CG Ultimate, whether kit or ARF. You are assigned a member number #138 and, please, keep us updated on your Ulti kit when you go ahead with it!

Best Regards.

Hey, fellow members of the Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood,

Got2retire here..

Bought an Ultimate 10-300, likely more than 8 years ago ( who remembers or at this point cares how long ago). It's been stored high and dry.. Need to do something about that.
Took it down and out of the storage, with the thought of starting it after the holiday. Upon inspection discovered most of the wood (maybe all is there) along with the plans and booklet.
No landing gear, canopy, cowling and wheel pants... What ever else who knows... $$$?

The quandary is as follows:
  • To purchase canopy, cowling and wheel pants is one thing plus the landing gear.
  • Building is another
  • Covering
  • How it flies,
The 64 thousand dollar questions are: DO IT? SELL IT AS IT IS? OR TOSS IT?

I'll add, every Goldberg plane I've had has been a good plane, Chipmunk ?? ( pilot sometimes not so good).

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Stay safe to all of you,

I’m not a member of the brotherhood, but I have owned and flown enough of the them to tell you they are a great flying biplane! That said, build it.

The Goldberg Ultimate is one the best kits ever made IMHO. Iv'e owned three and probably flown 12 more over the years. As long as it's not dead stick it is a very forgiving plane. It can also put on quite a show. No it can't 3D as well as some of the new stuff but it will still bring ooohs an aaahs when wrung out. Your investment in parts and time will be rewarded.

Nope, they don't dead stick, at all, especially with a tail wind. They fall right out of the sky. Been there, Done that. Damned throttle screw worked itself loose, took off, climbed up, throttled back a bit and the engine quit. Dropped like a rock. Found the throttle are wide open, but the barrel fully closed. Thankfully no engine damage, but munched the fuse up past the cabane. Will need to rebuild the fuse and replace the ribs the struts connect to on the wings.

Check Rick (glider flyer) at the Hesperia AMA club, he had one that I had a hand in building several years ago . Don't know if he still has it or what happened to it. Had a YS .91 and flew quite nice.

Default Hi Stang

Are you referring to Rick Pearson? I don't know him personally but, I have a friend that is very involved with the club.. He wanted me to confirm last name..

Thanks
