The LT-40 is coming along nicely. The Bomb Bay is fully operational. I have been trying several different combinations of LED's and lamps, also different batteries. For me, the big issue was getting the bay to work right.
I'll keep you posted. I guess this isn't really a topic for the Lazy Bee forum, so I might have to start a new one for this if it gets more interest.

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

I have a Speedy Bee and have enjoyed it for some two years but now I have been looking for another small plane that would easily fit in my car (I drive a Honda Civic). The Speedy Bee was an easy choice and is a great flier, but all good planes will eventually succumb to gravity. . .

With that in mind I went looking for the NEXT fun little plane, I think that I found it . . . in Nova Scotia of all places; the Newbee (no relation to Clancy Aviation).

It's Small (40" wingspan), Light (~3 lbs), and butt ugly. I like it already!!!

You can have a look at it on;
www.adrianpage.com

The descriptions of its flight characteristics and photo gallery have peaked my interest - it's my kind of plane.
And unlike Clancy Aviation products it is currently in stock.

I cannot (yet) vouch for anything else about the Newbee, but it could be an alternative until Clancy is back in full production...

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

Hey Bruce! I am a Speedy Bee fan....I am on my third one right now. I also purchased the New Bee with the floats but it is still in the box. It looks to be a very nice kit and I am looking forward to building it. A buddy of mine who sent me a photo this past summer had built one. He did an awesome job and said it flew great but did not elaborate on it too much. I have not heard any bad thing about it yet. It looks like a cartoon version of the Gee Bee Sportster. What color scheme will you go with? I like the white and Carolina blue. Also I was kicking around the same blue but with antique white. It gives it a nastalgic look. Not sure what to go with.

Oh.....it has a symmetrical airfoil. Electric may not be too bad if you have a nice brushless. Adrian Page said he took the ribs and sliced them in half to make a flat bottom wing like the Speedy Bee and he dropped in a master airscrew 540 with gear box and said it flew great. So that is a thought. If you have a question....give Adrian a ring. He truly is a nice guy. Good luck with the New Bee....as soon as I finish my helicopter, the New Bee will be next.

I have a terrible twist in my lazy bee wing whats the best way to repair it. Should I just remove the covering and redo? What do you think?

imsofaman 11-13-2003 10:51 PM

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

Is it the ARF version? Did it happen over time? Or was it from covering it and one side is too tight?

imsofaman 11-13-2003 10:56 PM

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

Well....if it were me.....I would try to do what I could not to recover. In the past a couple of times, I had slit the covering at the trailing edges, used low heat to retack new covering on the exsisting covering and pulled accordingly to straighten out the wing and re ironed the edges. It is hard to say from not seeing it. If it is WAY off.....then I would try the slitting technique...if all else fails, time to recover. Was the twist in it before you covered it?

twostroke 11-13-2003 11:08 PM

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

I covered it myself its not a arf. They are so light that it warped like crazy maybe ill try the sliting the covering for reliefs and pactch the covering . I would love to take it out and fly it I have a new saito 30 to put on it sitting here waiting for me.

The wing was built nice and straight and only twisted when i covered it.

Bruce -
Hey - appreciate the link to the Newbee page. I've checked it out and what a killer li'l plane. I wrote Adrian and asked about the $8.00 shipping charge to the U.S. and he says that it is correct. I would have thought the charges would be more shipping out of the country but......

I like his version quite well and will most likely put it on my list of "things to do" for this winter. Adrian's kit seems to have so much more than the Clancy kits in the way of goody's and for the price it would be hard to beat. Thanks again for mentioning this kit!

Hey Dave -
Seems like you have yourself another winner with the latest Speedy Bee.....really looks sharp dude! I haven't started on mine yet - other projects keep popping up. I have the Tigerkitten just about ready to start covering and have started working on the PBXL that HSRCM puts out. I am doing this one from scratch and finished cutting out the wing ribs last night. Tonight I will start framing things up. Here's the URL for the PBXL - http://www.hsrcm.com/pbxl.htm
I am planning on mounting an OS .25FX up front with HiTec gear. This one should be a hoot - I'll keep you posted on the progress.

:D

Hey...checked out the link...looks like a total blast to fly. Like and IFO on steroids!!!!! I want PHOTOS!!!!!! Glad you liked my newest Speedy Bee. I can not decide on which project to do next....New Bee, 76" wing Great Planes Cub or my JR Voyager electric heli. I am so confused!!!!!! [sm=bananahead.gif]

I don't really like mine. Hard to build and a pain to fly. Mines for sale, $50 with an OS .15FP. Good shape, been mildly wrecked once and expertly rebuilt. Can take pics. Let me know!

imsofaman,
That's a great looking Bee, the black and white is striking and matches Sylvester. Where'd you get him by the way?

I like unusual pilots in unusual planes. (Have Austin Powers in my Sportster.) ;)

DBCherry,
Glad you like the plane. For an electric...it has a lot of power!!! The pilot....I got Sylvester when my wife and were food shopping one day. He was attached to a small children's book. I stopped when I saw it....my wife says...! "A pilot for your new plane?" I grabbed it! She knew exactly what the plan was....I had been talking about it for weeks but had not found the perfect pilot until that day when we spotted it. When I got home, I cut him off of the front cover and dropped him in the Bee. I thought I was going to have to sculpt him out of foam.....I was kind of hoping for that, I like sculpturing. With the stuffed Sylvester...I felt like I was cheating! All in all ...it was a lot of fun.

He still has not caught Tweetie yet!

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

Hi guys;
Sorry for my absence – I had some stuff going on-
I’m still looking forward to getting a Newbee BUT; it’ll have to wait a while. I was able to get a hold of a Stagger Bee kit and that is to BEE my winter project. (but just wait until next year!!) I’m glad that I could be some help to the RC community in finding a new plane.

As to disparaging remarks about the NEWBEE – I’ve only heard of one – it doesn’t fly as slow as a Speedy Bee. Well gee whiz just look at the pictures of the two of them, the 14” wing chord of the Speedy Bee makes the Newbee’s wing look tiny by comparison (I think it’s about a 10” Chord)– smaller wing less lift - must go faster! Not really a bad thing.

I have cleaned up my old Speedy Bee and made an interesting modification to it. I removed the windshield and installed a removable canopy (OK it’s balsa covered with silver monocoat) The idea was to stop getting my throttle servo covered in oil - but now it totally changes the profile of the plane - it almost looks like a CAP (sort of).

It’s not been flown since the Mod, but it should be faster as there will be no parasitic drag from the open cockpit. Flight testing will have to wait for spring, photos whenever I can borrow a camera.

Happy Landings;
Bruce

Hey Bruce...welcome back! When you start the New Bee...please post some photos. I have not started mine yet. I have herad great things about this little plane. Adrian had told me on the phone last year that he took the ribs of the Bee and slit them in hlf to make a flat bottom wing. He did this to make an electric version. He said it flew great. Thought I would throw that out for you.

Will you start a new post with the Stagger Bee? I have allways wanted one of those!

I know this all started out for the Lazy Bees but here is my Speedy Bee. I connected two exhaust extensions together to take the exhaust down below the wing. Works out pretty well. Also there is a picture of my Stagger Bee :D.

What is the flight envelpoe like with the Stagger Bee? What do you like and what do you dislike about the plane?

Have you tried the #11 Trexlers with the Speedy Bee yet? I use those on my Lazy and Speedy Bees.

I like the photo....I see the kids are enjoying it. Kids love my Speedy Bee. It is like a flying cartoon with attitude!

Thanks for the photo Bolar!

I have the Trexlers on all of my Bees. They look the best with the planes I think. I also hate Trexlers. It's a pain to keep them inflated. I wish someone would make some nice foam wheels that look like Trexlers.

I have a OS FS .26 in my Stagger Bee. As for flight envelope, it moves along pretty quick, and flys slow beautifully. I had some growing pains for the first few flights, the CG was marked wrong on the plans and I had to discover it for myself :eek: . The CG turned out to be at the LE of the top wing. NOW it flys great. I didn't get to do any flying last summer. I'm hoping to tear up some sky this coming season.

There are five reviews of the Stagger Bee here at RCU, check them out to see what info you can get.

Dave;
The Stagger is still in the box (it's my Christmas Present from my wife) so I won't be working on it until the new year but from all reports it should be an easy builder and a great flier. BTW Great Photos of your Bee!!

Bolar, I have found a light weight soft foam set of wheels from VMAR work very well on my Speedy Bee they aren't as fat but the work quite nicely and they never need inflating.

BBBair,

Hey....got a link or some more info on the Vmar wheels?

bbbair 12-01-2003 09:53 PM

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee

Dave;
here's the link to the site; www.richmondrc.com

BUT; I just went through it carefully and the Wheels weren't listed (hey they're a small thing and they cannot list everything on their website) So go to plan 'B', Use their 800 number and ask about their 3" light weight foam wheels and see what they say!!

I'm sure that they'll be able to help you as the wheels are in stock at my local shop. Just watch out for the time difference, Richmond's are on the West Coast!

Good Luck!
