Much better. The asking price is not far out of line. If you're looking for a kit to build over the winter I would encourage you to make a deal for it.

Not a whole lot of progress tonight to report, did manage to get a few more stringers on. Spent most of the evening covering the club trainer that I put back together. Remember "Humpty Dumpty"? My goal is to try to get something accomplished (on the Ryan)every evening regardless of the amount.

Ok.  I can't stand much more of watching.   The kit I bought a few weeks ago is open on my bench. The box is yellow but the parts all look good.  I have not checked but it does look like everything is in the box.   I may have to take the plans to a copy show so that i can make some working copies and start just as soon as the housework is done.   My big project before fall is painting the deck, swing set, and some indoor moldings on the first floor.  then I have some maintenance work to do on a few other models before I start this one.  I should have rented!

Fcabarle, I will be starting the wing soon, as I will want the wing done before I cut out the wing saddle to ensure a proper fit. I'm up to the challenge!

I_fly, sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I do here as well, remember to make time for "stuff" that gives you enjoyment.....</p>

I would love to be able to buy it but I just helped No. 3 son get married and get him and his new wife to his next post in the 20 days leave he had coming. He is a PFC in the Army. I was thinking I can't afford it at this time maybe one of the people following this thread would like to join in the building. There are a lot Ryan lovers out there.

Nice plane. I have the GP STM version and it also has a DLE20 with pitts muffler. Nothing sticks out and in fact I had to extend the pipes out of the cowl with some tubing. It has an 80" WS and flys easily at 1/2 throttle. Ihave a 14lb Pt-17 with the same engine and it has no problem getting around. This plane should be way over poweredhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gifYou should put in a smoke system since weight won't be an issue with this engine, trust me. Look into using Solartex for the covering, I just recovered my wing with it after an accident and it almost covers itself and it has the real fabric finish. Available from Balsa USA. I'll post some pics later.

Very nice Ryan Raptureboy!

Finished all of the bottom stringers tonight and have been steadily fitting the 1/4" thick balsa that fills in between the main frame and the nearest stringer in the wing position cavity. it's proving to be quite a challenge to get it to fit just right!

Will post pics tonight so you can see how it turned out. The fit of these pieces are critical because the load and stress of the wing is transmitted into the fuse through these pieces.

Thanks Patrick and Vincent. It's just an Arf, but I 'm trying to dress it up a little bit. I picked it up at a swap meet last year for $150 and last Nov I tipped a wing on landing and snapped it in half. Ijust repaired it this summer and covered it in Solartex. I want to recover the tail and add the flying wires. Vincent, where is Peterboro in relation to Nashua? I have family there and in Plymouth. Peterborough is about 35 minutes away from Nashua. The field that I fly at is technically in Merrimack but close to the border line of Nashua. Solartex is a very goodcovering I have used it in my last build. It is much easier to apply than Ultracoat. I plan on using it on this build.

Both bottom balsa fill-in pieces are fitted and now glued. Was tedious work to sand them to fit properly. You can see the angles of the pieces which I tried to highlight with pencil. Next up is to cut and fit the wing saddle pieces which will be placed just above tonights completed work.

Both final fill-in pieces that ultimately become the wing saddles are nowfitted and glued. Next up is to cut out the wing sadldes using the supplied ply wing jig which is to be mounted on the main frame sides. Since the fuse sides are curved you have to shim the jig in a vertical ( plumb) position with scrap balsa. I am going to instead make a more substantial jig that will hold the fuse and allow the jig to be plumb without shimming and screwing into the sides of the main frame. Since this is a pretty critical step I think it will be worth the time and energy to do it.
