Hi Dannafinance and everyone following this post, It took a lot longer than I though it would, but I finally finished my gaint stinger. I tryed real hard to keep the weight down, but came out at twenty pounds. I have a smoke system in it and some of the weight came from that. I will try to get some pictures posted soon. I hope to put the maiden flight on it soon, but after pictures are taken. Sure hope to take some after also. Will let everyone know how it goes. Later Wayne

Nice Stinger - I'm building one of these but I am altering the turtle deck and fwd fuse and rounding off the wing tips and tail feathers to resemble a '40's racer - hopefully it will fly like a stinger but look alot sleeker.....

Thanks Stargazer, For the comment on my stinger. I hope you can show us some pictures of your stinger and the changes you make to it. That should be an interesting plane. I still check this post to see if dannafinance has finested his stinger. That is going to be a really good looking stinger. Will look for your updates. Wayne M.

has anyone ever tried lightening this kit...it looks pretty heavy but it may just be my lack of knowledge!

Well Guys, I put the maiden flight on my Stinger last week. It flew great with 2 clicks of down and 1 click of right aileron. I now have 12 flights on it and the G62 keeps getting stronger with each flight. Like to hear from other planes that have been completed. Is yours done Dannafinance? Wayne M

Hi Everyone

I'm from Sweden and been thinking of buying this kit, due to my rather small cash status I'm worried that the only engine I have aren't going to give the power needed for the GS Stinger.

I recently bought myself a SuperTigre G3250 to be used in a Zlin 50 from Fen Yang. Due to my rather low flying experience I felt that this plane would demand more knowledge then I could provide so I have been looking for a plane to be more suitable for me.

Could you help me a bit if I'm doing the right thing buying this Stinger and if my engine will be enough, I have flown for a couple of years now and I master trainers well and have flown Sukhois and other low winged planes with mixed success.

All answers is good answers even if they ar bad for my wallet :)

Johnny,
Welcome to RCU:D

I can't speak about the engine but nothing is easier to fly than a Stinger. They can be as tame or as wild as you want. Go for it.

Hi Pete

Thanks for the answer, I'm sure glad that this could be a great plane for me to use. Hopefully my engine will be enough for the plane.
Otherwise I must try to find some other engine that will do the job and still is in reach for my wallet.

/Johnny

Hi Johnny, You might want to consider the Stinger 120 plane. It is only slighly smaller than the Gaint Stinger. I have both and they both fly great. The 120 has a wingspan of 80 1/4 inch and the gaint stinger is 84 inchs. I run a brison 2.4 in the 120 stinger and a G62 in the gaint. A 20x8 prop on the brison and a 22x10 prop on the g62. Hope this helps you decide which one would be best for your engine. They both come in kit form or A.R.F. The 120 weighs 14.1 lbs. with the brison and the gaint is 20 lbs. with a smoke system in it. I flew the gaint stinger in our airshow yesterday and the "smoke" was a big hit. I bet some of the other flyers will have smoke next year. Hope this helps. Wayne M.

Hay Dannafinance, Its been a year since we started our Stingers. Have you flown yours yet? I would like to see it if you have pictures of it. Mine flys great with the G62 up front even if it is overweight at 20 lbs. Please post some pictures if you have them. thanks Wayne

I am just finishing a Giant Stiner with a G-62 mine came out weighing 21 lbs even. I sheeted the tail surfaces withf 1/64 inch lite ply made it stiff as a brick. I also made the rudder about a 1/3rd bigger. and made the ailerons 1" wider. Should make it fly nice. I put fiberglass parts for the turtle deck, Canopy cover and tank cover as well as the cowling. Use the supergear for the landing gear instead of the aluminum one with the kit. Also mount the servos in the tail Hitec 5645mg one for each elevator and one for the rudder. Had the G-62 sent to CH Ignition and modified for the electronic ignition should make it transition nice thru mid-range.

Hi Mark, I know that you will love the way this plane flys. I am flying the G62 with CH ignition also and it is a great combo for this plane. I am using a 22x8 menz prop now and I like it better than the 22x8 zinger I had on it. My engine is not broke in yet and I will go to a 22x10 after it is. I think you made a good decision to increase the flying surfaces. This Stinger will do about anything a pilot can. Frank thill sent me a vidio of his 20 lb gaint Stinger hovering with a G62 and a mejzlik 22x10 prop. Looked like he had power to spare. Good luck with your plane, WayneM.

Here's mine....it's on the heavy side but flys great with a 3.2. The biggest issue I've had is with vibration and the white ABS cracking. I had to go back and reinforce as mentioned and replaced the cowl with fiberglass. Other than that it's a great flyer....

I am building a Stinger 60 and was thinking about glassing the insides of the plastic parts. They seem kinda flimsy to me. Any suggestions on why I should or should not? Thanks.

Mark C 12-06-2006 10:10 AM

RE: Giant Stinger

I would use fiberglass parts, but If you want too reinforce the inside the best you can but it will still crack with time.

Hi Mitch, I just wanted to know how many Stingers are being built and flown now? Mine is still flying great. Wayne M.
