RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Damon & Spad man
Thanks for the info guys, I've got the wings, tail group and control surfaces done and I'm about midway thru the fuse. Got to work tonite and tomorrow nite so it will probably be Monday night before I get it ready to cover. Trying to come up with a good color scheme, I'm using light purple, yellow and circus pink on it. May turn out ugly but I should be able to see it pretty well in the air LOL. I hope to have it in the air by next Friday, I need to get in some time on the sticks (have not flown in 2 weeks !!! ) Also have a GP Ultimate 40 bipe that I need to get on the bench next. I hope my "honey do" [X(] list is not very long this weekend! I will try to get some pics on by Monday nite. Dale |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Speaking of covering, does anyone have a multi-view drawing of the SSE suitable for planning covering schemes? I thought I remembered seeing one floating around a few months ago, but it was pretty crude and I can't even find that one. (FWIW, I'm planning on using Ultracote metallic purple, white, flourescent orange and metallic charcoal.)

I think there is a drawing in the back of the SIG instructions booklet.
Here is one of mine before stripping and checker board was added. |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Manny,
I had just put on a Magnum .52 that I had just gotten broken in good. The SE would SCREAM with that engine. Unlimited vertical and would do anything I wanted it to. I was on my 5th or 6th flight with the new engine and was goofing around too low and dorked it into the ground. It's definately rebuildable and I probably will after I get the FUN 51 profile flying and then finished my TF P-47. If I don't rebuild it, I don't imagine it will be long before I purchase another one. |

Hi Krossk,
Here is one I had. Not very good resolution, but perhaps it will still work for you. Regards, |

Mine is also not the greatest resolution, but it worked for me. I've modified the nose somewhat, but that shouldn't make a difference for laying out color schemes.

RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
WYDAH - That's the one I was remembering - Thanks.
kiswa - Mine's not exactly a stock nosse either, so between these 2 drawings, I'm sure my needs are met. Thanks again to all. |

Krossk...I used this one. It may be the same one Wydah has but I put it in Paint and sharpened it up pixel by pixel then used some other program to draw the schemes.
--EDIT--doesn't look too good when you open it up on RCU but maybe if you Save As. |

Manny..How's it coming? We haven't heard from you in a while.

RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Hey DamonTX:
I got to thinking about it and reading another forum on SSE kit - what if my building surface was not totally leveled. It might be off a little bit. (The bubble stays in the leveled area.) Will that effect my wings? How do I check my wings? I hope these wings are not ruin.:( |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Manny...Just finished reading the same thread. I think they really meant to say flat not level. In some instances level does matter such as when you're seating a wing to the fuse but for just framing up kit, particularly a SSE, flat is all you need. You mentioned you are building a table, assuming it is a permanent one and not temporary for building a single plane then I would make darn sure it's flat & level.
My SSE is all framed up and the covering will start this weekend. Hopefully the maiden will be the following weekend. Damon |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
My building surface is on the ceiling tile, which is above the cardboard table.

RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
You should get one of these, best thing to build on. I have one that more then 20 years old.
Guillow Workboards WB36 - 36" Workboard WB48 - 48" Workboard Solid workboards made with all balsa and designed to resist warping. Will save household tables or hobby work bench from messy glue spills and pin holes. http://www.guillow.com/guillowList.a...915&familyid=6 |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Yeah, but I always seem to miss the building board somehow. Did you know CA works really, really, really well on solid oak tables? [X(][&o]
Have been "banned" from kitchen table several times... more to follow I'm sure. :) |

Yeah, the wife loves when I bring it to her world. CA works really well on any table. Here a GP Ultimate on the Dining room table. that was my last time, I have been trained.

Hello All:
I purchase some MDS boards. I am now on a flat surface. I am sure you all are happy now. :) It turns out one of my wings is not flat at the trailing edge, but I think I can flatten it out. It is not all that bad. I took it to my LHS and he said he could not believe it was built on a card table. The other wing is flat. Go figure. Well, I am back on the build. I am working on the ailerons, stab and elevators as you see from the pics. More to come!!! How is it going DamonTX? We want to know what is going on with your plane. Where are some pictures of it? I want to see it.:D How did the covering job go? |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
I have started on the vertical stab and rudder. I am going to go back and sand everything at once a little bit later. I want to sand it outside - just too dusty ;).
I am thinking about using triangle stock instead of sanding the ailerons and rudders. Do you guys like that approach? I seen it here on RCU and I think I might go with it. Any objections???[:o]. Please come forward!![8D] It is starting to move a little bit faster, but I want to get back to VF Edge. I think the SSE and the VF edge are going to be great planes. To get ready for both of these planes I converted my trike Tiger II into a tail dragger. (That is one of the reason why I have not been building :() I took it out on Tuesday and it went pretty well. A little bit different, but I can fairly say it went well. Hey, I got it home in one piece. When I get home I will post a picture of the Tiger II. What a great plane!!! |

I heard it is a great plane and I cannot wait to get this bird in the air!! |
RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
I built a SE on a card table about 6 years ago. Flew just fine, in fact, it still flies fine.
Great Job! |

Manny... It's been rather slow going lately because I've been remodeling my kitchen at the same time. The kitchen has been a huge project because I started from plaster walls and ripped them out and hung sheetrock. Nonetheless, every night I've been able to put a few hours on the twin. Here's where it's at so far. I just got back from a work trip and am planning on starting to cover the tail this evening. By the end of the weekend it should be pretty much covered.
I've decided to use my experimental trim sheme. I've used it on several modified planes so far and have found it the easiest one to see (for me anyway). Damon |

RE: Sig Something Extra Kit
Hi Damon
Looks like you and Manny may get yours in the air before I do !! :) I seem to keep adding modifications on instead of going ahead and building the plane. I wanted to ask how you guys were mounting the receiver battery to keep it in place in the plane ? Hope to start covering this weekend. Thanks Dale |
