RE: GP CAP232 Build
Metallic plum it is.
I used no lead to balance. Balance was obtained through battery placement. I originally flew this plane with an OS 70 Surpass. My Saito 91 weighs the same as the OS 70. Yes, 14-6, can you say "hot rod"? |

looking good

RE: GP CAP232 Build
Not complaining or anything, devo, just curious, but exactly how much prop clearance do you have on a wheel landing?

Well now, that looks fun too! Keep the pics coming. It'll be interesting to see a YS installed.

I mounted the YS tonight. I clamped the engine to the engine mount to mark the location of the holes... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_144.jpg I used 6-32 cap screws for mounting... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_147.jpg http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_146.jpg |

RE: GP CAP232 Build
I've just started watching this thread. Last week I bought a GP CAP 232 40 kit from a club member thats had it in his basement for a couple years. He inherited the kit from another former club member that had done some of the assembly, so I get to finish it after correcting some of his mistakes.
Unfortunately one of the mistakes was the wing spars are not set correctly for the dihedral, and the wing jigs are missing from the kit. Since you've completed wing assembly, would you be interested in parting with your wing jigs? I'm trying to avoid cutting them myself from scrap ply. As for the spars, I figure if I have the jigs in place, I can sister in some pieces before joining the wing. I'll also probably glass the wing center to make up for the spar. Brad |

RE: GP CAP232 Build
I have been very busy lately and havent been doing much on the build but I will post new some pics tonight.
I have been messing with some trim scheme though... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/CAPsmall.jpg |
RE: GP CAP232 Build
Thanks for trying. I went ahead and cut them myself last night, since I had the original outlines, just not the pieces.
Nice looking trim scheme. I look forward to further updates. Your pictures are great and are helping me better understand how this thing goes together. Brad |
RE: GP CAP232 Build
Hello - I enjoyed reading your thread as I'm just starting building the fuse of my CAP. I have to say that I'm impressed by the quality of your build! I noticed you are going to use the stock motor mount. Did you consider a soft mount? I'm putting an old 70 surpass in mine and am debating on using a softmount. I'm using a Hyde mount on my YS 110 and it seems to work great.

RE: GP CAP232 Build
Well its been awhile since I worked on the CAP, I have been preoccupied with fixing a sukhoi. A buddy of mine at the field crashed it a couple of weeks ago and he ended up giving me the remains. I had to totally rebuild the nose, cockpit, bellypan and one of the elevators. I recovered most of the fuse and hand cut all the lettering and graphics. All I need is a engine and radio gear. It is a [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEDN8&P=ML]Phoenix Models Sukhoi SU-31[/link]... Pretty nice for free!

Ok back to work on the CAP. I Balsarited the wing Monday...
http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_173.jpg I started covering the wing last night. Here is the bottom. The stripes will be added later... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_177.jpg Here is the white portion of the top of the wing... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_178.jpg How about some color? http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_179.jpg The wing before shrinking... http://www.gumhead.com/rc/cap232/Img0045_180.jpg The trim color doesn't really show up good but it is [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHV52&P=0]metallic plum [/link]. The metallic green trim will be overlaid later. |

RE: GP CAP232 Build
very nice workmanship, waiting for mine to arrive from ups, nice to see there are some builders out there!
I am also considering a ys 63, I have a 110 in a funtana, engine took about half a tank to break in.. I just hope this cap is not as snappy as my sig 231 ex. keep up the great work. Vinny. |

RE: GP CAP232 Build
do you mind if I post a pic of my completed cap232 kit in this thread. It is really a great flying plane. I had the same issue with the wings not coming out correct. It did not effect the way the plane flies.
