ORIGINAL: Julian537 do you mind if I post a pic of my completed cap232 kit in this thread. It is really a great flying plane. I had the same issue with the wings not coming out correct. It did not effect the way the plane flies. |

I used some scrap paper taped together to make a pattern of the turtle deck...

The rudder was one of the hardest parts of the coving job. I wasn't that hard tho :)

All that needs to be done now is the wheel pants, cockpit and radio gear. I'm in no hurry tho, as you can see in the pics winter is here. We just got smacked with 12 inches of snow on Friday.

Looks great, beautiful job! That purple sure is sharp looking. How did the cowl from Stan's work out for you? I just placed my order last week. I had a tough time seeing the cut line on the wheel pants so they didn't turn out too well. I may go a fiberglass pair from Stan's or elsewhere.

gumhead, looks good. I've got to ask about the paint on the cowl also. What paint did you use and how was it applied? If you tell me you used Lustrecote from the can I'm going to start ordering mine from a hobby store in Boston. When I refurbished my Cap I replaced my cracked and crazed abs cowl with one from Stan's also. When I painted it, I drained a can of Ultracote yellow paint into a container and then used an airbrush to apply it. It looked great, very smooth very little orange peel. When I drained a can of Metallic Plum Lustrecote And applied it the same way to finish the job, I learned something new, Lustrecote and Ultracote paint are not compatable! Oops. Otherwise I was very happy with the results using the airbrush.
Have you run the YS yet? What size prop do you have mounted in the pics and do you plan to fly with this prop? How long do you have to wait before you will have an chance to see your creation fly? We get some snow here, but it never lasts more than a week. Maybe you can get Barbie a fur coat and some skis and go fly this weekend. |

First of all, great looking plane!!! I should be getting my kit here shortly. I wanted to ask you if you ran into any build issues that the manual may not specify? For example, Step #8 on page 28 shows some incorrect measurements (taken from Great Planes website). Thanks for the help! FYI - you may be hearing from me soon if I run into any build issues.....THANKS!!!:D

I had no problem except for the wing jigs when I put the wing together (see post #16)
I believe the update from GP was for older kits, they corrected the error. I would not worry unless the kit is old... Its a fun build you should have no prob... well except for the wing... |

On mine, I found that gluing the wing jigs together helped (not specified in the instructions). I also made 2 sand bags (1 gallon zip-lock bags about 1/2 full). One on each wing created sufficient pressure to hold the wings on the jigs and hold the jigs against the table while gluing the center bracing. Although its difficult to determine visually with a di-hedral wing, there does not appear to be any twist or warp.

Hey thanks for the great thread! I have my GP cap all framed up, and noticed that the kit does not call for the center section of the wing to be glassed..... Seems REALLY weird but I'd be glad to skip this if it has proven to be unnecessary. I've never built a kit that didn't use a glass center section! Any advice from you guys who are flying this kit?? Thanks

The wing in this kit is built plenty strong without any fiberglass. Don't add the weight or the mess. I recommend enlarging the ailerons though, I was very disappointed in the roll rate when I first flew my Cap, it wasn't what I expected. After flying mine for a few years I enlarged the ailerons 50% chord-wise, removed the torque rods and installed a servo on each wing halve. This plane is more fun to fly now.

Devo- Thanks for the reply. Did you simply make the ailerons (and the wing) chord longer or did you shove the trailing edge of the wing forward to keep the wing chord as it was??

good info, I just completed my cap and I know they say it finishes tail heavy and needs weight added but how much? I have an OS 46 on it and seem to be having to add an excessive amount to the nose? Any info would help thanks |
