RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Thought I'd jump online tonight to see if there was any smack worth responding to... Just as I thought... there was nothing... just like what will be left of loganjoel's spad... NOTHING! [8D]
I figure when I'm done slicing and dicing his spad I'll put my RedBull SSE up for some victory rolls! :D sorry loganjoel [&o] On second thought... no I'm not! [>:] [8D] |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
I guess that comment wasn't answered OTE because loganjoel was working. But I expect a "bring it on" response.:) I hope I'm there for THIS one!!!

RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
We could probably charge admission for this one [sm=punching.gif]

RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Thats it, The gloves, I mean the streamers, are off! I didn't want to have to resort to violence, but as k9rwt put it, when these two turkeys are done duking it out, all thats gonna be left of OTE's spad is giblets. HAHAHA!!!HAHA![>:]:D
SPAD airplane - $6, Streamers - $0, The look on OTE's face when his spad smacks the ground and explodes into a thousand pieces of smoke and fire and total destruction - PRICELESS!!!! p.s.- anyone know where a guy can pick up a radio jamming device cheep?lol! All joking aside, this spring should be fun. Everyone keep watching for video of the carnage. It should be interesting. |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
I maidened my SE today and considering it was too windy for a maiden flight, everything went well and the plane came home in one piece. No trim needed. One small problem... the stock motor mounts are not strong enough for the Saito... So I'm shopping for a better mount. If anyone has experience with a Saito on a SE... I'd like to get an idea on what kind of mounts people are using.
I only got one flight in that ended in a dead stick... all in all I can't complain. |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Sorry I missed it. Sounds like it wasn't nothing fancy due to the wind. I'll try to make the next voyage out.

RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Update: I replaced the motor mount with a Dubro anti-vibration mount and went out for a few flights today. The Dubro mount worked great... Engine still set on the rich side but seemed to perform well. I discovered that I'm not getting full throttle due to too short of a servo arm so I'll be replacing that PDQ. Still haven't tested the Side Force Generators... mainly because I want to make sure everything else is dialed in to the "T". That being said... I'm going to replace the throttle servo arm... also need to re-adjust the CG due to the slightly heavier motor mounts and I'm going to do a bit more tuning on this new Saito engine. I'm planning on a full test with the SFG's on the next trip to the field.
On a sadder note :( Loganjoel's SE bit the dirt pretty hard today. As it was discovered after all was said and done... his switch harness had a shorted connection in it which resulted in ZERO control of the plane from about 150-200 feet up. It is not repairable. [:'(] I will say this... up until the point where he lost control... that was one fine flying SSE. Loganjoel did test the SFG's last week and they seemed to work very nicely too. RIP the "SuperMan" SSE. Please join me in a moment of silence. Now! let's move on... Suck it up and put that OS70 on that Ultimate Bipe that's collecting dust in your Hangar LoganJoel! LOL :D |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Sounds sad for loganjoel....yet, a friendly "laugh" may be coming from you? ;)
|
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
With Loganjoel's luck, the only plane he'll have left is the spad, and you're wanting to cut that one to ribbbons in in the air. I wanna be there to run the video cam... oooo I can't wait! Film at 11?

Looks good - wish I could have been there but I was teaching tonight.
ORIGINAL: OverTheEdge I tried posting a video... let's see if this worked. http://www.rcuvideos.com/item/N19N0D7LNWZ8TKS6 |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Seems to work... :D
Video quality isn't the greatest due to my camera having focus fits. I have alot of "dialing in" to do yet but it looks to be a fun plane. Gonna be playing around a bunch with CG, props and other misc setup... but I think once I get it fine tuned it'll be a blast. Ran with a 13x6 prop in the video.... think I'll slap on a 14x4w apc on the next trip out... I'm also going to move the cg back to 4.5" and double check the lateral balance. Let me know what you think. |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
I just finished building my first SSE. I'm wondering what the final flying weight should be? Would like to know how much others SSE ended up weighing when complete?
Thanks nbop |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
ORIGINAL: loganjoel Well, here it is. I was kind of afraid of how it would turn out but I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know what you think. The bottom fuse is yellow and the wing bottoms are plain. that has to be one of the most original monokote schemes I have seen. It looks great. Its given me some ideas as well for my next prokect! |

ORIGINAL: nbop I just finished building my first SSE. I'm wondering what the final flying weight should be? Would like to know how much others SSE ended up weighing when complete? Thanks nbop Also I've had the c.g. on SSE's from the 3.5" back to 5" and it tolerates that well too. Obviously the lighter the better and start at the recommended c.g. and slowly move back as you get used to the plane. All in all... fun plane to goof around with. Update... I've slapped a 14x4W APC on my SSE with the 82 Saito... pretty good performance. Gonna try a 13x4 on the next trip to the field. As far as the side force generators... the jury is still out... I think I need to build a couple other sets (play around with shape and overall size). The current SFG's I think are just a touch too big... they grab the plane pretty aggressively when dumped over to knife-edge flight. Fun though. Update on loganjoel's SSE... Let's just put it this way... R I P [:@] |

I finished another SSE, it has a Saito 82 on it with a 14x4W, great performance with 15%. This time I built in counter balances, both elevator and rudder. I also moved the stab forward 1 inch and the fin back 1 inch, allows for more rudder throw without changing the elevators. Running a Fromeco 2 cell lithium Ion plus regulator, set at 6 volts, she really does well. Snap rolls and tumbles are amazing, flat spins have not been perfected yet though. I think I have too much throw LOL.
Great plane ! |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Nice job on that SSE Hughes! Looks like your counter balances are pretty close to the same as mine. My SSE is the RedBull themed one on this thread. Did you use the stock mounts for your Saito? I ended up using a set of Dubro dampening mounts on mine.
I'm going to make note of your mod... moving the stab forward... nice! |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
Over the edge Thank you for the responce mine came in at 6.5 lbs. Just feels a little heavy, but it could be the .70 fs hanging on the front. they seem to be heavier than what I'm used two.
Thanks Again Neill |
RE: Let's bash another Somethin' Extra!
No problem... I thought the same thing with that Saito 82 on the front AND those HEAVY Dubro mounts... but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on how well it'll fly for you. :)
Let us know how it works out for you. |
