RE: GP Cap 232 40 Size Build Modifications.

Nice job Nipatzu.
When I did my first test flight with my cap I thought that it was really tail heavy but some guys at the field told me that I should move the engine thrust firstly because of the way it was flying. I took off some of the built in up thrust and then I went to the field to have another test fly and found out that the plane was nose heavy so I had to relocate the battery and that is how it is flying now. As the location of the CG is a very critical set up I do recommend that you make your first test flight with in the recommended CG by the book and listen what prgonzalez said, you have to achieve the CG with everything installed on the plane with the exception of fuel. Test fly and see if you like, then you can move if you wish the CG according to your taste in minimal increments.
I hope you will enjoy this plane as much as I do with mine.

I will test my Cap with recommend CG.
Today i got Cap ready for the first flight. It is a little bit nose heavy and i think i will check CG tomorrow.

That is good to know that Cap is critical about the CG

I made the drive-in for AX today. Engine worked very well. I think it is my the best motor, which i have ever had:)
I think that i do the first flight tomorrow in our club field.

I made the maiden flight today!! Cap flied great!!:) Ax worked ok. There are lot of power in the Ax46.

Weather was very foggy (picture) and flying was difficult. Takeoffs and landings were easy. CG was ok i think.

I am happy now :)

Hi nipatzu,
I am glad to hear your Cap did perform well today! Congratulations with your first flight!
I am building the Cap also right now and I just expoxied the fin into the fuse so I am ready building with the wood. I think I can do the maiden in a few weeks. I haven't made any modifications at all and I will just build it like they say in the manuel.
It seems like a special place to fly with al the snow over there, it must have been verry cold! I think it is cold over here in Holland but I will fly it if the weather is good. Enjoy flying your cap!

Thanks Ruben!
The weather was pretty cold. Temperature was about -4celsius( A.25Fahr) My finfers almost freeze:)

Good luck with your Cap Ruben. What engine do you think?

I am going to use an OS Max 50 SX for power. I think it will be a verry good engine for it Here is a picture of my cap as it is right now :)

your cap looks great nipatzu
good thing your covering has alot of red, with all that fog a white plane would be hard to see!

WOW!!
I live near the desert, lots of sand over here (Bad for our engines) Those pictures remind me of some places where I use to live.
Happy to hear that you already had a succesful maiden flight, some numbers or lettering on the fuse would look nice too, any way it is a great plane, enjoy!!!:D

I think that i don´t made letters and numbers to fuse. Plenty of hard work I think that i put some GPs original stickers.

I was on field today. Cap was better than last weekend because aileron movements was bigger than last time. Rolls and loops were very nice to do.
Weather was excellent. Sunny and few degrees frost.

I did my maiden a three weeks ago but i didn't take any pictures. The weather is verry cold but it's still good for flying. Only my vingers are freezing. It was flying verry well but I will do the covering again because it didn't went verry well. I am verry bizzy with school but I think i will take pictures this weekend when i got the time :D

How Cap flew? Was your Cap easy to land and fly?

I have not flew my Cap in last few weekends. The weather is rainy and grey here in Finland.

RE: GP Cap 232 40 Size Build Modifications.

The Cap flew verry wel! I did the maiden three weeks ago but my engine didn't work verry well. I flew it three times with two times a dead engine! The next week it was horrible weather and last week I flew again two times. A clubmember helped me with my engine and it flew great! I think it wil become more stable with better covering and the fiberglas cowl added. Landing is verry easy with the Cap, it is verry stable at slow speed and no nose over at the ground so that's perfect. However I lost a screw from my landinggear on the second flight and the landinggear went 90 degrees under the plane. I had only a bent landinggear but I bent it back already so I am ready to fly again. I will finish the plane in vacation and do the covering again.

RE: GP Cap 232 40 Size Build Modifications.

be sure to coat a little thread locker on your bolts for the landing gear, and especially on the motor mount bolts, so they
wont fall out.
anywhere a bolt goes into metal, such as a blind nut,or some call them t-nuts, without thread locker, the vibration caused by the engine
will loosen the bolts sooner or later, just a drop or two will hold them tight.
dont worry though, they are easily removed at any time you need to.

screws treaded into nylon usually dont come loose, but check them periodically anyway,
better to be safe, and also save your plane.

It looks like you are ready to flt it again[8D]
Did your cowl get damaged also, or are you breaking in that engine?

RubenJ 12-20-2007 03:10 AM

RE: GP Cap 232 40 Size Build Modifications.

The cowl is al right, I will put it on later as I have paint it. It has flown the next sunday and it was doing all right but it was so cold that i wanted to land after a minute. My hands were freezing it wasn't much fun. I am going to wait for some better temperatures.

I made the instrument panel today. Material is 3mm balsa. I used Dremel, hobbyknife and sanding paper. I think that panel is very good for my building skills:)

I need a pilot and then cockpit is good!
Cowling isn´t ready yet. I am waiting the fiberglass.

Waiting better flying weathers

The pilot is in the cockpit now.
I also painted landing gears and put strong spring between gears. (picture)

Pilot is really hard guy.[sm=shades_smile.gif] Cap will fly better now...[sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: GP Cap 232 40 Size Build Modifications.

Best wishes for all of you in this new year, this year I had not the time to make a building (I have a Top Flite P-47, A great planes extra 60 size, a little tiger moth and a Se A 5) I will have to go with any of them soon, before the winter ends.
I wish for all of you that any building become soon in a great flying machine.
Thanks.
