Well guys I canceled my vmax7 order as It is still on back order and I want to fly now. I am going to the hobby tomm. where they have a new vmax6 in stock I know , I know but I did get some great flights with my old v6. I will be more careful with fuel mixture this time. How ever I do plan to look into a motor mod from an rc car set up. They stay cool in a car so on a heli like ours it should be no problem. When I do get that mod figured out I will let ya all know. Air craft rc motors will not work they need a large heat sink which I am sure every one here knows. I just want reliability. I have seen that some heli motors come with recoil start which will make this mod even easier. Alan

I'm still undecided about my 6....i had trouble for the first time tonight.....started up ok...ran good for about 5 minutes till i came down pretty rough....after that it lost a ton of power and i couldnt keep it running for more then 1-2 minutes.....pulled the needle out and flushed that...new glow plug....wont be able to try it again for a lil while though...kinda weird the way it happened though....I'm thinking the rc car motor might not be a bad plan....12 with a pull start would be great, less field equipment and such...have to think about that...

Joey,
On your v6 did you check the intake for dirt or grass. I had that happen once when I came down hard. I am getting the new v6 just so I can still fly but I will check out a converstion some time soon. I need to get to a hobby shop 1 hour away to look at car stuff to see if it is worth the work. I have heard of some guys doing it so I am sure it can be done just have to make changes like balance and cutting some of the crutch .. Alan

My order for a VMax-7 went in the other day and today I thought I'd check if my existing VMax-6 would play ball
In the past, although it displays plenty of power, this engine has always stopped abruptly at some stage during most flights. Guess what - my 6 worked great this afternoon! I had 3 flights, in a blustery wind, and not one engine shut-down!
Is this an example of "Sods Law?"

Guy's and gal's my v7 mod on reversed crutch. I run this engine in as a planemotor with apc 7x3 prop, aprox 10 2oz tanks. go's very strong but stops suddenly
some times. Could be to much compression??????

Glad your 6 is ok Alan, I wish you the best of luck with it
Could be right about the compression! I tried everything to cure my abrupt engine cuts and the only thing which worked (just after I'd ordered my VMax-7!) was lowering the compression. I now have five washers in there. It still has plenty of power, doesn't splutter when I throttle-up, doesn't overheat, and more importantly it doesn't just stop running any more
I've got to wonder why I didn't try using this many washers before ordering my new engine - and I think the answer is that I didn't believe the engine would actually run with so many washers! Of course, the weather's changed here and that could make a difference too (it's turned really cool and "damp" recently)
Do I regret ordering the VMax-7 - definitely not! I love IC but hate "fiddling" to get an engine running "on song." I've read that the 7 is much less "finicky" to set-up, so I'm looking forward to getting the new engine and giving it a try. Think I'll run it in and get it set-up like you did - with an aero prop fitted
