Default LMH110 Elec/Conversion Question

I have been flying my 110 for about 2 years now and my Norvel is tired. I would like to convert to electric and I like the design of the Corona crutch. Has anyone just upgraded to the Corona Crutch (with electrics) and kept the 110 MR/TR and boom? I know the Corona has a larger MR diameter and subsequently a longer boom, but I plan on using a brushless setup that I already have, versus brushed (which I have several from all the cars I have). I think performance should be good with the 6 grips. I just don't see buying a "Conversion Kit" and changing to a larger rotor and tail......maybe if I were going with a brushed setup. Was just curious if anyone else has done this.

Default No need for new crutch

Hi there

I have been flying the lmh110 converted to electric for two years now. All I did was pop the norvel out, strapped a brushed motor in its place using some good Nyties, moved my electronics around to get it balanced, removed the Arlton Gyro and replaced that with a piezo gyro. Fllies great!

It will take some trial and error to get it going though.

A good thing to do would be to view the conversion article on the LMH110 on www.ezonemag.com.

BUT you do not have to cut your crutch down like in this article, or your body. Make sure everything else is nice and light, geta good power source and good batteries and you should be fine.

I thought about using my 110 crutch......but it has seen better day's. I want to just transfer all of the "Guts" over to a Corona crutch. I think with the Hacker setup I have, it will have plenty of power to fly with the smaller blades. My only question is I have heard reference to a longer main shaft that is used on the Corona. Is this true? If so how much longer is it and why is it longer. Is there a clearance issue, or is the 120 crutch just taller.

The 120 uses the same length main shaft as the 110. Both part numbers are 92709.

I'm also flying a electric 110. I'm using the stock 110 crutch but you can use the Corona crutch without doing any modifications to it. To me it's much more fun electric than glow. I'm getting 8 minutes of flight time using a 8 cells Panasonic 2000 Nimh pack. For the first 1-2 minutes of flight, this set up is giving me more power than the Norvel engine!!
Here is my set up:

Mega 16/15/3 brushless motor
CC Phoenix 25 amp esc
10 tooth pinion
2-6 dots grip
hitec 535 receiver
HS-81 servos
Heli-Max micro gyro

Well ... I threw my glow plug driver/fuel/pump/paper towels/windex into the lake in 1985.

I hope you realize that the tears have filled my glasses and are overflowing into the keyboard from laughing like crazy!!!

you guys are crazy. Im like Spiro Mini Boy. I may give the electric a try but it is highly doubtful you can pull my nitro I.V. out of my arm. Ive been smellin nitro fumes for so long of a time Im hooked. Its been about 25 years or so. I like the gas and go feature, I only have to wipe my heli down just once a day at the end of my flying day.
wanna hear something funny: I was flying the other day out in front of my house, just doing a little bit of goofing around trying to do some precision flying with my heli. My wife turned the sprinkler on and i thought why not fly through the sprinkler. My thinking was the water would hit the engine and cool it off then I could continue on flying. Well I got into the sprinkler path and the water hit my engine alright. It also got into my Carburator :stupid: . Well, down she came. I was only about 4 feet off the ground. I laughed and said how dumb. I knew immediatley what happened. There was not crash damage because it didnt crash. It just dropped and landed on its skids upright. Not even a boom strike. Well, I wont be doing that again.

If you had electric power, you would have flown right through the sprinkler, as there is no carburator.

Remember, I'm just pushing your buttons and jerking your chain ... the Ford/Chevvy ... Harley Davidson/Honda Gold Wing thing. Spiro knows.

Incidentally, the reason I haven't aggravated you guys for a while is that I rode my Harley to the Americade motorcycle touring rally in Lake George, NY for the last week. With about 250,000 motorcycles in the same place at the same time, you should hear the debating about MY Honda's better than YOUR Harley, & vise versa!! WOWWWWW!!

It's all in fun.

Mini Boy,

Did you in-case your electronics in epoxy? As a rule electronics do not get along well with water. At the very least once wet its best to dry them out for several hours. At worst it's new parts.

With NITRO it's drain the water refuel and go. Plus you have the same amount of power from start to finish of a flight.

O.K., back to the original issue:

You guys made me feel so bad ( ) that I skipped lunch and went searching for LMH electric conversion info. I eventually wound up at "that other place" (if you know what I mean). There is one particularly good thread, as a matter of fact Sylvain has a couple of posts in it. There are 6 or 7 guys represented, ALL have used the stock 110 crutch, boom and blades. Most (or all) have replaced the Arlton gyro with a piezo gyro, and 1 used a Futaba GY-240. 1 used 2-4 degree grips, most use a 4 and a 6, and 1 or 2 used 2-6's. Motorwise, there is an assortment of Fusion, Atomic Force, Buggy motors, a Mega ... but NO brushless. Everyone says they fly great and are getting anywhere from 6 to 9 or 10 minutes (I think 10 min. is a stretch) per flight. I was going to say that most find them much more of a pleasure to fly than the oil version, but I decided not to.
