Default Problems shifting in and out of reverse

Hi all,
I am having problems shifting into reverse or forward, sometimes it works sometimes it don't. It even gets stuck in neutral and me not realizing end up reving the arse out of it.
Anyone got any ideas on how to stop this.

you can remove the screw from the linkage/saver on top of the reverse servo and check and see if it is a servo problem or a transmission issue. you should be able to separate the linkage without removing it from the servo, it has a top and bottom plastic piece and a spring in the middle, you can separate them without doing any damage and it will only go back together 1 way. also if you put a small screwdriver on top of the silver spring and twist it a little the top will come off and not disturb the spring.

hope this helps you find your problem

its not a servo prob just put a brand new one in,all the linkages move freely when trying to engage reverse, the lever on top of the transmission moves 3/4 of the way to get it to engage properly roll the truck a bit and it then clicks in, Have altered the servo so it has max movement and still the same, have stripped the transmission and can't see any problems. ( sorry didn't explain properly before hope this makes better sense)

When you stripped the gearbox did you re-pack with grease? It's just that you might have put to much in there and its stopping the shifter engaging properly. Personal experience talking here, it would not let the shifter go right the way in making it slip out into neutral or not go into gear at all! Just a thought m8!

EDIT;...Obviously it was happening before you stripped the box or you would not have stripped it lol! I dont know why I bother answering half these threads!

Stripped gearbox because output shaft broke took out all broken bits didn't have any grease so put a few drops of diff oil in didnt think it would hurt.
And no it wasn't happening before. not a dumb question

you could go to a arm on the servo instead of the servo saver style that comes on it and see if that will do anything any different. i am assuming that the gears/shaft for the forward/reverse mechanism were all in good condition, the servo movement with a solid arm should move the mechanism and hold it no questions asked. i am going to change to that linkage as soon as i get the time, but havent had a problem yet. you could have slightly tweaked the shifting fork when you broke the shaft, if you dont use the high/low much you could switch them and see if that helps since it stays locked with the knob.

I have noticed that mine does the same thing...the servo shifts the forward/reverse fine but at times, it won't go into full engagement and I have to move the truck a little for it to click into place......the only thing I did was upgrade the servo from the stock to one of the ones that come with the stock LST for steering....centered it right and have tried every thing possible on the radio for EPA....if anyone can throw a dog a bone..lt me know!

i sometimes have this problem, after landing a jump or sometimes after a knock it pops out of gear, then goes back in on its own, sometimes i do have to actually push the button to re-engage though.

i just put it down to a weak servo, not prepared to buy another yet though.

Nope...haven't had any other problems w/ the tranny aside from that...knock-on-wood! And I know it isn't due to a "weak" servo sonce I switched the 590 from the steering to the for/rev and still that problem with it not fully engaging most of the time unless it's rolling!

Bluegrass, by the way, are you the guy who is selling the updated steering rod for the Dynamite upgrade? If so... how do I get one from ya?

Yes, all you need to do is send $14 to my paypal, my paypal addy is

[email protected]

I have the stock length and the +1/4" version in stock now, should have the +3/16" version back in stock next week.

I think that your problem in the tranny is that the shifting fork is somehow moving while your running but without the servo moving, I would open it up and switch the shifting forks with the high/low range shifting fork-they are the same. It might not do anything different but it is a cheap way to try a new fork, also you could put a throttle return spring on the reverse arm making sure it stays in forward a little tighter. This problem puzzles me, it shouldnt be happening, it almost seems like it is something so simple that we are overlooking it.

stuberger, Bluegrass, i opened up my tranny to check with the exploded view in the manual just to see if any thing missing or worn away!!
And found a small piece of metal that looks like its ether come off the top of a bearing or is a bit of shim,
Its about 1/4 mm thick by 10mm round have taken it out and swapped over the switching forks,
its still the same if the trucks not moving it has problems fully engaging

I seem to have fixed my problem, ths stock radio for the uk is set up to have the EPA of the aux channel set very low, it can go up to 200! i have set mine at 130 now and this seems to just keep a smidgen of force on the shifter after shifitng, i pretty much hammered her tonight and she didnt once slip out of gear, i know this will probably wear out the servo after some time, but hey, ill just upgrade it then!

simmyoto

glad you got yours fixed.

chrisuk

does it look like a piece that has broken away with jagged edges or does it look like a small tooth or something that has came off of a gear. what about part of the bearing race, i have broken several of these running electric (stock on and offroad) so check the bearings over good.

i will keep thinking about it.

later todd

i found it did mate, just set it so theres a bit of positive pressure on the shifter after its actually shifted, as i said, it may well decrease the servo life, but should be ok, no different to a rc plane aierlon under constant pressure i supose, touch wood i have had 3 tanks through since and not once has it popped out of gear, even after some serious air time!

You should get a humming noise from the servo (binding) if there is to much pressure on it so I would say that it is alright. Mine is firmly engaged with pressure but it is'nt binding so I take it its ok!!

Mine has been acting up like this, and I found out that there was to much play in the linkage. I would try too move it from foreward to reverse, or the other way around, and it would just go into nuetral. But if I moved the small arm on top of the servo saver, it would engage. So I bent the linkage a little, now all is well.
