Default Diff fluid

I have an Aftershock with a new Losi 454 and I want to take the grease out of the diffs and put silicone fluid in them. What weight would work best in them, I don't race or hill climb.

Thanks, Randy

sugafree Why run 30 weight instead of say 10k? Does the thicker oil make the diff work more like a "locker"? or does it just wear on the case less with thicker oil The reason is all I do is bash as well and I was about to replace the stock grease with traxxas 10 weight. Also, how much oil do you put in. Do you fill the case or just put in enough to lube the gears. Lastly is there a particular brand you recommend?

10K will be fine if that's what you got (Lots of races use 10K) As far as Brands......I Like Ofna Diff-lock

I use 30,000 WT in my XXL. The difference between that and grease is like night and day, Before If I turned the wheels fully and hit full throttle, the front inside tire would immediately diff out and grow huge, Now with 30K oil doing the same thing it just goes and the tire doesn't diff out... I haven't tried 10k because I'm happy with the 30k, but I would say on a monster truck, you want to go thicker than you would on a truggy, since MT's don't steer well when you are going fast anyway, you don't have to worry about losing steering to the thick fluid....

I have the Traxxas 10k in both my diffs, and it is still way better than the stocker grease. Go for it.. you'll be glad you did. My diffs are both totally filled with fluid. I havent had any trouble yet...

Great info guys thanks. I will probly get some 30k. I'll use the 10 k in my aftershock and the 30 in my lst. That way I at least don't waste the 10k. The aftershock is my backup truck.

oh yea, as for how far to fill, you want to fill it so it just covers the cross pins in the diff... Don'T worry though, all that will happen if you fill it too full is it will squish out when you put it together... just do it over the sink....

no, its too thin. Plus, if it leaked, you would have oil all over... I would rather have silicon oil than motor oil in the back of my jeep/in my house/etc...

I mean, I guess you really could and it would be a little better than grease, but honestly, a bottle of diff oil is like $6.....

Well yea, you arent locking it, you are just turning it into a limited slip....When a tire lifts, Itwill still spin, but its nowhere near as bad as it was with grease in there. stiffening the suspension a littlewill help, and/or adding swaybars...

I wouldnt lock it. Locked diffs belong on rock crawlers. If you want to keep good handling, you need some diff action. If the tire didnt unload a little, you would just traction roll....

no it wouldnt be too much drag, the gears in the diffs only move when you turn.
