Hey Brian,
Is your engine black? That thing looks INCREDIBLE ! ! ! ! ! !..............
Are you going to put yours in a UFO? I still haven't decided what I'm going to put my purple headed deamon in yet.
Take care,
David

I have the R60F I am installing in the UFO. I will show that too. That one's been around a while I think, but it too is just beautiful. I have to get better pictures for everyone.
This engine is up in the air for a home yet. I am sitting on it for one of two potential homes. I could use it in a Great Escape... Or break my Bridi obsession up a bit and hunt myself down an Arrow. But that is in the future. I have pretty much depleted my hobby funds for a while.... I still have more stuff coming in the mail! lol.

Indeed it is black!!! I was expecting the natural alluminum case, but when I lifted that foam lid and saw it.... I could just about have wet myself right there and then!

I've been thinking about getting one of the Speed 13's with the 9mm carb and the in-flight adjustable needle as well. If I could get that one with the black case, I'd be thrilled to the max.(Hey Buddy, are you reading this, hint hint........................LMAO
)When David recommended the Arrow, Brushfire and a couple of others in a different thread, I initially looked quickly at the Arrow and passed it by. But now, I'm finding myself looking at the Arrow and Brushfire again a little more closely. Luckily, I'm in no real hurry to choose one yet.
Have fun with your new toys.
Take care,
David

That black is sexy!
Are all the -13s black or are they different depending on where you buy from?

Regarding the Arrow or Brushfire... I cannot say it any better than David! He is always spot on in these matters. I have seen the Brushfire fly, and that setup was rock solid! The pilot is spectacular and I am sure that makes all the difference in the world, but it was a straight shooter!

Haung-
The website shows the option between both the black AND the aluminum.
David-
The website shows 9mm with in-flight air mixture as the only option for the moment. However, I'd call Buddy and ask if a 10mm option is available if anyone wants that. The 10mm option shows available for the Aluminum color case.

You set the high speed needle a usual on the ground but have the benefit of tweaking it during flight.
Have a pic of itbut RCU image upload is down. I'll try later.

Is that important because of the pipe? Would you constantly change it in flight? Some of the guys are having issues with lack of mid-range, I was wondering if you could set up mixing in your throttle and the mixture to help with this.
How would one of these compare to the OS .65?

Hi Dave,
Great to hear that the engine performs well for you. What airplane are you flying it in? I don't see any problems in airplanes designed before 1983, but some of the later .60 sized 'turnaround' designs might pose a bit of a problem. The tank location is unsuitable for unpumped/pressurized engines (inverted engine set-up such as the Aurora, Dash-5, LA-1, etc.). The 10mm Carb (.394) is a pretty big opening; larger than the old Perry pump carb (.375), but still not the huge (.425) throat of the YS .60FR. Back in 1980, after I acquired my first YS and was also running the OS .61V, I experimented with running the VF with the 7D carb with the brass insert removed. I got more ground rpm, but reliablility was poor as the needle setting needed to be quite rich to keep the engine from going lean in long verticals. A Perry pump helped, but the YS still had more power. My bench mark is to be able to pull vertical, fly a 4 point roll and pull out without the engine sagging.
As we discovered in the mid '80s, the YS .60 was just as happy turning a 12 x 9 prop as an 11 x 7 and fuel economy was much better. The lower rpm being run with the larger props eliminated the need for large carb intakes which is why the Hanno and YS long strokes had smaller carb intakes.
I think the most impressive aspect of the new Nova Rossi's is the performance to cost ratio which seems pretty outstanding, plus they appear to be very well made (typical Rossi).

One thing that is tantalizing is that Robert Fish is getting amazing performance from his OS 65AX on the pipe and if these engines perform markedly better than his 65 I will really be happy.
Chris...

Got to wear my blue cap the past couple of hours. Received the natural aluminum case speed 13 today.
SMT (Buddy) does a real good job with their product and company presentation.

Paul,
Could you please elaborate some on the comparisons between the OS 65 and NR 60? How do
they compare to each other as far as power/rpm on the same fuel, prop, pipe, and plug?
Thanks

Thanks Paul. I am really too new to this to even know what my flying style will be but I'd like to get this engine for the Vertigo and use retracts for CPA if Frank keeps up his contests.
I do understand what you say about different classes between this engine.
You know there was some argument about using the Webra a few years ago in the pylon racing because even though it was under powered on the ground it unloaded more in the air and could beat the OS .25. I think that's the way it was. This could be the case with the NR on a pipe.
