I have aquired a new temptation kit, basic, -- does anyone out there know the mods that is needed on this plane, if any. I have been told that some changes have been done to make it a better flying plane.
Plan on using a FZ140 YS,
jerrys

I also have a kit and plan to get started on it soon. My understanding is that the some builders are making mods to the tail:
1) Cut off the counterbalance - the rudder is too effective for some pilot's taste
2) Decrease the rudder hinge line to 5 degrees - apparently eliminates a mix
I also spoke with one Temptation pilot who installed formers in the fuse at the wing tube to help stiffen the airframe. He said it made the plane snap better.
Also, some pilots are installing larger canopies and moving them forward. Apparently this improves the rolling maneuvers.
If you search this forum, you will find all these mods. Anyone know of others?

I just received my Temptation kit and will be powering it with a OS140RX. I will try to post pictures as I start building it. This will be my first pattern plane build. Hope others will post building photos to help others also.

Hi !
got my kit today!
looking good , fuse is ok lite 773gr with the cockpit frame and bellypan ,formers for undercarriage installed and one former behinde the wing also innstalled !
looks to me that the wings are wery thin , probably goes fast!?
wings stab and rudder nice cut foam .
only bad thing is a stripe in the fuse that probaly is some thing that has been in the mold under the prosess off making the fuse and a smal fracture in the front belly pan..but that is not a big problem despite off that the glassworks looks wery nice and the coat to!
Regards Rune

The rudder can be a bit much. Cutting off the counterbalance section will make it easier to manage.
You can reduce the hinge line angle at the rudder to as little as 3 degrees without hurting anything. Don't go past there.
Assuming you build light you can cut 1 - 1 1/2 inch off each wing tip to enhance roll performance.
Don't worry about downlines. These planes generally have to be powered into the exit of 45 degree downlines or they get going too slow. Fact is, it's an overblown issue with most modern designs. The way to acheived relaxed downlines is with proper throttle management technique.
Modifications can improve or screw up a plane. Failure IS an option - I've seen it. A Temptation built to spec is a fantastic flying airplane and any mods are to enhance performance, not fix anything that's wrong. Because of its relative simplicity the Temptation is a great platform for experimentation, but know what you're doing and why you're doing it.

Hi
but if i cut away the counter balance do i still have the same heigth on the fin and rudder ?
and would not this have some effect to roll tendency on the rudder?

Just cap them off (add some wood and shape it). Plane flys better in crosswind without extra counter balance height. A previous post on the Temptation shows pictures of them without the counter balance. Do as Lee says and you will have a great flying plane. My two planes also use Focus canopies instead of the stock one. Brings canopy further forward and makes rolling the plane even easier than it already is. With Webra 160's/ES 160 pipe my two come in at a nice 10lb-1oz and 10lb-2oz, respectively. A tribute to Dave Guerins building consistency. All the little tweaks mentioned make a great flying plane even better. I believe I don't have the hinge angle tweak on mine. I just needed a little up elevator mixed in for knife edge flight. At the weights mentioned, I don't use much full throttle and consequently can go throught the Masters sequence twice with a little to spare with a 16 oz tank. Prop of choice APC 17X13 and Powermaster 15/16 for fuel.

I want to buy a Temptation kit but I don't have an answer from Piedmont Models.
Maybe it is allready sold out and I have to wait for the second generation of this kit.
Does anyone know something on when this kit will be available ?

We're currently out of Temptation kits - at $299 our stock didn't last long - and are undecided about producing another batch. We have an inventory of chin cowls and canopies to support parts that occasionally get broken in existing planes.

Hello guys!
Here is what is done so far!
have almost done the stab ready for sheeting. whats left is to glue in the support for the elevator horn and to cover the tube with the foam that i cutted out to install the stubes so the surface is smooth.
i used 6mm balsa in the root and glued 3mm plywood for the adjuster bracket.I aslo glued some 4 mm balsa to seal the tube in the end the rib that hold the end off the socket is 4 mm x balsa!

hi!
some weeks since last post so just to get back in business, the flying season isnt over but all competiton are finished so that gives more time for the project!
i have decided to change the aluminum tube with a carbon tube got from Probuild in GB .Tried to order some sheets for the wings from a small shop here in Norway...but all to heavy...pretty silly when u spec. the order to be not over 15 gr a sheet and ..no one under 25....
Just placed a order at Lone Star US heard some good things about them.
Have decider to start with engine install and firewall ,gonna use self made !QUOT!hyde Mount!QUOT! O.fremming Style (http://home.online.no/~ofremmi/Artic...hyde-feste.PDF) its in Norwegian ..but take a look anyway! the drawing that was off the firewall isn't correct at all i made a template from a cardboard ..and going to use good 3mm plywood (not ligthply) for that job!
Try to take some pics later !
also found a lot off good hints and tips in this tread by M.Novack http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_53..._1/key_/tm.htm
u should take a look ....better buildings instruction cant be found i think!
