She already knows this plane and drools over it. She has already claimed it as you can see. they were offering joyflights that day for $450 30 mins.

Well a T28 is some way off yet, maybe a big Byron , Ironbay distribute them now with a Moki radial in the nose -mmmmmmmm

These are the bottom locations. Note that the insignia on the bottom of wing is slightly different than the one on top.

Wow - where was all that when I was doing my documentation search?!!

Re stencils, I've ordered a set of 1/48 Aeromaster ones for the P47 - am going to try scanning and enlarging to req'd size and reprint onto my own decal paper. Remains to be seen how the quality comes out, but will give a good selection if it works. Hope I'm not infringing any copyrights - I am paying for the originals and just "modifying" them

Like I care........[8D]

Cam

BTW, now I've done the bulk of the painting, in acrylic lacquer, I was planning to do the smaller stuff (noseart, kill markings etc.) in enamels. Just wondering what I can then use for a weathering "wash" over it all - maybe water-based acrylic? If so, any suggestions for final clear-coat? I'm guessing lacquer will stuff the enamels. Would matt polyurethane be o.k. over all that?

Thanks for any advise.

Oh, BTW, Tower Hobbies (who are being reeeeallly nice to me now) have sheets of swastika decals. Have ordered some to see if useful for kill markings - then I'll only have to paint the circles.

Next project might be all one colour with no markings - any suggestions?.......(oh, plus long nose moment, fixed u/c, no lights,........)

What is up with the giant photos. It is making my DSL work over time to get this page downloaded. lol. I finally got my retract air kit from tower hobbies. They sent USPS which took 8 days. Atleast Now I can sheet the bottom of the fuselage. I ordered the robart retracts from them also but on backorder along with the fuel tank. So who knows when Ill get them. Im getting close to where I got to decide what engine to use. So from what I have been reading is the G 62 still the most popular choice? The only experience I have with a gas motor is with a BME 50 which is in my TF P 51 arf. It is a reliable engine that starts pretty easy. Is the G62 comparable power wise? I am running a 20-12 apc on the bme. I got a little more speed when I changed from a 22-10 zinger. Also lands a little hotter with the 20-12. By the way nice looking planes fellas. If my plane comes out half as nice I will be happy.

Well the fuselage is all done with regards to rivets. Not sure on how many but there is alot. Took about 20 hours of riveting to finish. The tail turned out well. I am now working on the elevators. Panel lines are on, and painted. Just waiting for the paint to fully dry before I lightly sand and remove the tape. Then I can start the rivets.

Peter
Not to sure about doing a book LOL. I am posting these so others can see a cool way of doing this. Glad you like the pictures. After all, the object with this site is to share ideas and different techniques. Anyways, Panel lines have been sanded down (pic 1) and then removed (pic 2) I will let it set up over night, then after work tomorrow, I hope to put on some rivets.

Anyone have the Aero Detail book on the P-47? If you do can you check and see and maybe post a picture of the aileron attachment points. I'm talking about the three hinge points that stick out from the aft part of the wing that the aileron attach to and pivot on.

Criag,
I think I need to go talk to my friend Ron who has a small lathe and get him to turn up a riveting tool like yours for when I get to the Jug. Those small rivet details are the best I have seen.

51 is coming along slowly - been too busy with work, been a very stressful week with early morning conference calls and issues to be dealt with constantly - man I'm glad it is the weegend!

anyway we are grounded this weegend as the 4by is in getting some much needed work done to it, new bottom wish bone bushges, tortion bar bushes, CV boots, brakes, raditor, tappet bucket re-shimmed, wheel alignment and then new tyres! As the mechanic lives next door he has leant us one of his cars but I do not like to use a borrowed car too much so no flying for us tomorrow! []

Oh well more time for getting into the 51
cheers
Peter

Well I started painting the fuselage this evening. I am starting with the top, then I will proceed with the bottom. I am using modelmasters model paint (FS36270). I used two bottles and have only half the fuselage done as you can see in the second picture. Two more bottles should do the trick. It is begining to look nice. Rivets are very light which is the effect I was looking for. Not to sure how the pics will turn out, I will post them anyway. After it is all painted, with a little weathering the rivets will look good. I hope.

Well I finished up the grey on the fuselage and have also painted the bottom Grey FS 36173. Not to much of a difference in colour but enough. I am following the FS numbers as for my scale documentation. I did a sample of the green over the grey. I am using FS 34097 as for my documentation. WOW is that green ever bright. I don't think it is the right colour, I think it is too bright. Any opinions on this would be appreciated.
I have another question regarding another colour'
"Bright Red RAL 3001" does anyone know what colour red this is. The tip of the cowl and rudder are this colour.

Craig.

Craig,
that is definitely the wrong colour. P47s that wore camo in the ETO used RAF colours. You need to use same colours as on the Spits, the green is a olive type colour.

cheers

Craig,

Frank Tiano's colour book (paint chips) has samples of the RAF colours you need.

Looking great - reeeeeeallllly love your rivet work.

Cheers,
