I recently purchased this ESC/Receiver combo on ebay for $60. It is a 4 channel receiver with ESC specifically designed for tank ops. It is 27Mhz and I just put it in my Tamiya 1/16 Sherman. It runs great, pivots just like the DMD T-01 from tamiya. Not only is it cheaper but it was an easy setup as well. Search ebay and you will find this. Tak Po Electronics T-2000 is the model.

Thanks for the info. I am planning on upgrading an old Tamiya King Tiger and this is just what I need. However I have searched e-bay and cannot come up with anything....... Can you tell me where I am going wrong, or possibly give me the details of the supplier so that I can order one. Many thanks !

Outstanding Fireman! Another classic example of the benefits of competition in the market place! Watch Tamiya DMD units prices start to come down! I hope! I also couldnt find it though, so maybe the market effects wont happen anytime soon! lol!!!

Hi,
The T-2000 is back on e-Bay. I just received mine and have not had a chance to play with it.
The spec indicates the ESC can handle a max continuous current of 75A. I think that is a typo. The wires to the motor look thick but it is all insulation. I can bearly see the conductors. This should act like a fuse as I would expect that to melt before damage can be done anywhere else.

Regards,
Alvin.

The T-2000 is great, but you are stuck with 27Mhz AM technology. If you want to use your own FM or spread spectrum receiver, then the Sabertooth 2x10 RC provides the same capability and more options: [link]http://www.dimensionengineering.com/Sabertooth2X10RC.htm[/link]
With the Sabertooth, you can control the left track with the left stick and the right track with the right stick or steer the tank using the right stick only via mixed mode.

I put in a non S/S HL Tiger[&o]
T-2000 did not workout too well for me. The ESC part is OK(I guess)....but then , how do you do turret rotation, elevation, firing. Not to mention............sound?
As far as I am concerned.....a waste of my money, should have just bought a HL S/S board from Mato.
Yes....wires are undersized.
That Tiger is a display/battlefield space taker-upper

Briz,
Looking at the T2000, it's supposed to be a four channel RX, and it appears to have CH3 & CH4 servo ports. So, shouldn't you be able to hookup servos to perform turret rotation/gun elevation, or (more likely) hookup ESCs to drive the stock motors?
Wouldn't have any free channels for airsoft guns though...

Use at your own risk........all I am saying is that I personally could not get CH 3&4 to do anything(basically dead on my unit).
So, I have a HL Tiger 1 that drives nice...but has NO turret function[&o]
Also.....they did NOT "meter out" anything with a multi-meter..............
Maybe I just got a bad unit......
This Tiger is now my "hanger Queen" for spare parts
I personally will never buy one of these again....but, thats just me
PS-on a side note..........even with capacitors installed....is VERY noisey!!!!!!!!!!(high pitch whine)

You can't. The T-2000 replaces just a DMD unit, not a DMD & MF combo. No firing, no sound. You can "probably" hook up a pair of servos to the CH3 & CH4 to get elevation and rotation, but that's it.

I think the T-2000 is junk. Took a while to set-up because the instructions are wrong. It won't work with the HL 27 MHz transmitter and I never could get the 3rd and 4th channel to work. Ran mine with HL gearboxes for about 5 minutes then the laft channel burnt out.
I like the idea of it but this is just a really cheaply made product.

Someone here, I think James, mentioned a unit called Sabertooth that worked good. http://www.dimensionengineering.com

I have a Sabertooth 2x10 in my Stuart. It was originally in my HL tanks but I had trouble with it due to the lower voltage of the 7.2 V pack. Worked through the issue with their customer service. When I hit a little resistance the battery voltage would drop below 7 volts which is the threshold cut-off voltage for the Sabertooth. It would reset the system each time. According to them some cards are more sensitive than others and they do not recommend that they be run with a 7.2 V pack although I see a few of you do with success. I put it in my Stuart which has a 12V battery and it has performed beautifully. They are originally designed for 12V based combat robots.

A Sabertooth Speed Controller and the TANKHOBBY Battle Circiut (TBU 'apple' optional) would give a system that would be SIMILAR to at Tamiya set up. The biggest feature you'd lack would be the slowing down of the tank base upon the number of hits, and the sound(s) tied to the damage. A tank that is almost dead makes a hell of a racket, and can barelly move. You also don't get a Stobe Unit for the main gun, but an LED instead.
We have one member, known here as BULLYHYS, that uses this set up in a few tanks. He would know a lot more about the subject.

I bought an older Tamiya Sherman (not full option-56004 I think) and it has one of these in it and it works ok but, I get constant radio interference. Someone at the LHS said that it is due to the metal tracks causing the interference and to shield the receiver with aluminum foil. I tried this and the problem was better but not resolved.
I'd rather not spend any more money on such an old tank.
Anyone have any experience with this.

You could gut all the electronics and have full option with El Mod inside, more proportional drive realistic, terrain self adjusting drive by constant monitoring of your motors rpms, much better sound. CSI, Tamiya compatible battle system and it is expandable!

IF you don't mind being limited to the Heng Long 27 Mhz, why not try HL Electronics. At $18 I doubt you will find a more cost effective ESC out there.
El Mod electronics are rock solid and offer a good option as well. Quite a bit more money but they'll work with any radio system.
