Charging ECU battery
Last year there was a notice sent out to disconnect the ECU battery before charging, as some charges ruined the ECU.
Has there been a resolution or fix for this, or is there a list of chargers that can be used and not damage the ECU? In my new plane, the ECU battery is buried and it's going to be a pain having to unplug it, instead of using the charge pigtail, everytime I charge.

Hi Jon
There is no fix for this issue other than disconnecting the battery from the ecu before charging. In your case, you could disconnect the battery cable from the ecu and then use the charging pigtail. This would assume that the battery connector on the ecu is accessible of course. Which charger are you using?

Hi Ed,
I'm using the Triton. We charged through the pigtail with no damage before we got the notice, but I don't want to take the chance now. I'm going to Duralites and that will help the problem. I'll just work around it, the 106 has a lot of stuff buried, but there's room to re-arrange things.

This was an old topic. If the charger doesn't have some kind of cleaning cycle it was OK. The problem is with the ECU not the batteries.

Hi Nony
The Simjet ECUs have a display panel that has indicator lights and a switch. The switch does not directly disconnect the power from the ecu, thus the need to disconnect the battery during charging to prevent damage to the ecu.

As we do not have experience with these two chargers we reccomend that your disconnect the battery during charging to prevent any possible damage to the ecu.

There are no chargers approved for use while the battery is connected to the ECU.
