I was looking at the tru site and it appears that spinmaster has redesigned the Dominator. The new one looks more like an aa jet. It also appears to have a digital controller. Could be interesting. Tim

sama, i just look at the soarer your where talking about. maybe i'm wrong but the wing area doesn't seem to be enaugh to handel an extra 5-7 gram of battery from the aero ace. i think the wing loading would be to much for this little thing. sound interresting tough.

Djstinger, and anyone else watching the progress on the mono/jet mod with the motors 1/2" out from original. Here is what is happening with that mod. I used a CF rod for the tail boom. I think that is my fatal flaw. I either have to so much weight in the nose to counterbalance the CF rod that the plane is to heavy. Or I put more lift on the plane, and it kites. These are the final pic's with the CF tail boom. I tought I was close with this mod. I used foam plates for the tail and wing extensions. Tim

Here is a case of inspiration, I asked earlier if anyone had used coffee stirring tubes for anything. After spending a couple of hours fiddling with the mono/jet mod, I wanted to fly. I flew a bipe, thinking I should tear down the mono/jet. I then picked up my mono with winglets. I thought about tapeing up the prop cuts, and then I remembered the coffee straw idea. Then I saw the box of toothpicks. I used the toothpicks to prove my theory. The theory is, If the wing is supported beyond the motor, the plane will fly better.

And here are the pics of the plane in question. A toothpick seems to weigh 1/8 of a gram. So the 4 toothpicks weigh in at .5g. After a long flight the toothpicks had been driven deeper into the fuse by wing action. Now I have to get some coffee stirring tubes. Tim

Sama, that is close to my winter project. I have a 24" wing span plane. I have r/c gear good for 300 yards. I have 4 ducted fan motors, I was planning on using 2. I will download everything I can get from that plane, spec.s wise. I want to use a lipo instead of the nicad though. Just for the weight/balance. If you can get your hands on a spinmasters titan, you can get this gear. Tim

Next up from me, apart from the refined disc plane, is something really different - give you all a hint, I call it 'spyro-gyra.' I've sort of given up on modding an rx for N-20's because there are no aa's for sale around town and I can't afford to fat finger another rx!
What's all this chat about flying season being over. Winter air should be great, I look forward to seeing more landing gear/ski mods, particularly jets with ski mods. Winter is rocket time for me because the frozen lake becomes a huge launch field. Would like to make an aa version of my favorite snow machine as well. When I was a kid I spent days running around with a mop handle that I put a stick on the end of, that hinged on a nail, sliding it in front of me along the snow, so that I could pretend I had a snow machine like some kids. Now I can try the same thing except without the mop handle.

I haven't been able to test anything for the last 2 weeks so now I'm just
cleaning evrything out of my work space. What a mess!
Got an idea for an AA indoor slow flyer and an idea to get into the school
gym.
Or wait til the dead calm of winter.

a good place to fly indoors is a sports centre. Pretend you're there for social basketball or sumthin. Then sit on the sidelines with your gym shorts and basketball shoes and unleash the aeroace
The most anyone will do is ask you to quit it.

Jonny, it would fly inverted almost as well as normal. Big swoops. It was the best aa glide I have ever built, but powered flight was to much. Tim

That's interesting! Wonder if it was at all stable. I have a couple of projects going and hope to post something new soon. Ferndale, the toothpicks mod was to offset the wing flex caused by N-20's or Jet motors, right? Did it work?

Jonny, I used the toothpicks on a standard AA. No souped up motors. I started noticing that the props were eating the wings on my second 06 AA. Generally I just tape up the holes in the lower wing. On the mono with winglits, they were actually cutting the winglets in two. I guess I should try it on the mono/jet. Tim
As for winter, it's always windy here so I'm not worried about that. When rainy season gets here, that will be a bit of an impedement. But traditionally, that starts in November. And ends in february. Oh well, I'll worry about that when I have to. Tim

the toothpick mod has another effect. When the wings are more solidly attached to the body, the plane is more responsive. To both wind and power commands. Interestingly it doesn't seem to turn as well, but that may just be the wind I'm flying in. Tim

Ready to install the AA into the indoor flyer.
All foam except the tail boom. Wingspan is 12" with a wing area of 34.
Fuselage was carved from a block of extruded polystyrene insulation
and weighs just under a gram. Tail section is foam pie plates.
Total weight 6.3 grams.
