We just bought 3 Traxxas XL5 Rustlers and figured we would put some bearings on axles, well after 2 hours we noticed rear wheels on 2 of the cars were getting real wobbly so I took lug wrench and was ready to tighten them but they were already tight so I removed wheels & pin and noticed parts falling out, the bearings had totally come apart. Well I am glad I kept the bushings, we only run on pavement no dirt and even then I would think they should last a little longer than a couple of hours.. What company makes a good bearing that will hold up... Bought bearings from tower part # LXD050 have not tried the larger bearings yet- for trans etc..

You can't go wrong with Team Blue Star products. They make some pretty neat stuff.

Is that because they come stock w/ the XL5?! Or you just meant you don't need them??
ORIGINAL: Slo-V Flyer
You don't need bearings for the transmission. The only bearings you need are for the 4 wheels and if you want, the steering bellcrank. But yeah get RPM bearing carriers and then use the 5x11 bearings in them. My original 5x8 bearings fell apart too, but only after several months of abuse.

It's common knowledge that 5x8mm bearings in the stock carriers will quickly come apart from just regular use. They are too undersized for the application. You need to switch to RPM carriers, or the equivalent, which use 5x11mm bearings. This is probably the #1 most recommended upgrade on a Rustler. Incidentally, the new VXL version of the Rusty has this upgrade stock now too.

I did get 1 set of RPM carriers front & rear enough for 1 car --guess who is going to get them..
it will take awhile for us to learn all the tricks. The Rustler is one tough vehicle we have bashed them real hard and they keep running.. The bodies are starting to rip where the pins hold them mostly in rear, I am thinking of some way to reinforce them at pin location.
