With the afc game a few hours away and with 2 feet of snow on the ground and rhe temp at 17 degrees I started cutting parts for the fuselage.will be posting pics as things progress.for those that have not built from plans ,I will show the steps I used to transfer the parts to wood and how I cut them out and tools used,this may be boring to some and there are other ways to do this but after 40 years of building this works well for me.

i am soon to start a couple of scratch builds, i would love to see someone with 40 yrs of experience's technique. please post lots of photos. as for football, I am so upset that my beloved Cowboys checked out of the playoffs early, i can't watch football anymore this year. however, i can have more time to build!!!!!!!!

I had the fuselage formers traced out from a kit and scanned into my computer for quite awhile.now they are printed out and then cut out and either taped or rubber cemented to the 1/8 ply.

once they are secured to the ply,I like to do the inside cuts first and have drilled holes for the jigsaw blade to pass through

now that the inside cuts are done ,time to switch to the bandsaw for the outside cuts.

Excellent. May I humbly suggest you modify the rear of the belly piece to have a rear former that is angled to the rear. It makes putting the belly hatch in much easier.

I will try and incorporate your suggestion.I will cut the former at the wing trailling edge then angle it back,will have to make it longer and a bit tapered to fit into the sides as they are pulled together at the rear.

Just a question. Is it easier to make the outside cuts with the bandsaw rather than the scroll saw?

in this case it was because other than the nose ring all the formers are basically rectangles and therefore the cuts are straight.I can cut faster with the bandsaw as there is no vibration like with the jigsaw.

well a few snow storms and an ice storm slowed things down while digging out.I have cut out the fuselage sides and will post pictures later.I have changed plans for power plant.recently obtained an ap yellowjacket .15 and will use it,I like the rear mount compact muffler and can point the exhuast down and out the engine compartment.I have ordered a hayes longmount to fit it and will see how things fit when it arrives.

it's been a while and the fuse sides have been cut as well as the ply doublers andnow it's time to cut out the wing saddle and hatch.old drafting compass was used after it was set to the thickness of the 3/8" tri stock to mark lines for gluing and to make the ply doubler

The root rib for the built up wing has been taped into position,both sides have brrn taped together,bulkhead locations matked and finally the fuselage has been cut out to accept the wing.

Are you planning to make balsa wing or use foam cores?

I drew the wing and ribs in cad to use a built up wing with a tab on the ribs to keep them straight while building.

while the bend for the tri stock is not gtreat I like to relieve the stress in the wood by preforming,this step os not really neccassary but it something that I like to do and does not take much time,it will be dry by the time I cut the lawn.both pieces of tri stock are soaked with hot water'put in the tub and tuen on the hot water for a few minutes,pin the sides to a stout wood block here a scrap of 2 by 6 is used then using the doubler as a form bin the outside edge starting at the nose and slowly bending around the doubler,pinning the outside edge to keep the stock tifgt against the doubler

after drying the tri stock takes a permament set to the curve of the fuse botom, note one right and one left.
