Default Finishing a Cajun R/C Tiger Tail IV

Well I hope I'm in the right pattern catagory as my Tiger tail version IV is NOT S.P.A. legal but truth be told I'm not a competitor just like improving my flight skills like us all and LOVE this bird-

Here is the Tiger tail primed and sanded with wet or dry down to #800 used wet. A few areas need touch up and then its time to paint.

Looking like a great job so far. You will like the Tiger Tail IV and it will be a great stepping stone to improving your flying. What engine are you going to use, looks like an OS to me.
Keep posting your progress for us to see.

Good luck and good flying.

Peace

Your Tiger Tail IV resembles a Kimbrough Deception, somewhat. I don't know which was first, but I suspect that the Tiger Tail was the first to fly.

Nice work.

It has an O.S. 91 works good if you can get past the external muffler.

Mark and Ed between the RAIN and my self induced[&o]pc crash and "rebuild' its good to have learned patience as a result of this great hobby of ours...well ,hope to get on with the painting (out of doors).
The white Klass Kote seems to work as good if not better than the ages old and now dc Super and the 'Ultra' poxy blends

Thanks ,I have been doing some minor touch up consisting of filling and sanding any imperfections in preparation for a final coat of thinned white Klass Kote Epoxy primer, followed by the finish paint coats.

Have Klass Kote reducer on order and a new HLVP touch up gun on order as well- The second coat of primer is sanded with #800 wet and ready for paint,so what I need is a 70 degree day with low humidity LOL

Its hotter than heck presently in the mid Atlantic region and I hate it[:@]

Well got all moved so to speak and got down to the finish details....I had thought I was ready to apply the final coat of White Klass Kote 2 part Epoxy primer when I found I was out of the primer AND I had ' lost' my TTIV rudder during the moving process, so built and glassed another- Then installed elevator and rudder linkage, using a D.H.S. coated kevlar pull pull arangement on Rudder and a Central Hobbies C.F. push rod with Titanium fittings, with a B.B. fuziwhatzit on the Elevator and of course the Titanium threaded rod screwed into a Dubro 4-40 swivel ball link, on on the elevator servo end of the Central Hobbies C.F. push rod kit. Finally while waiting for good out of doors painting conditions went ahead and re inforced the bottom wing center section out just past the aileron servo cut out and retract bay and mounting area, all needing reinforcement as I found with my first Tiger Tail IV,so a little extra sanding and finish priming is now in order and then..

The weather has been humid so I took advantage finishing up the radio install now completing the Throttle and installing the tank and 'fuel dot.' I trimed and sanded the 1.43 0z glass on the bottom wing center section area(pictured in my last post) hoping the process reinforces the retracts bays... Well I plan on applying the finish coat of primer, lightly wet sanding that and then starting application of base and color coats - So its getting close to completion;just hope this one performs as well as my first Tiger Tail IV[8D]

In between watching IKE" I finished the throttle hook up and told my self (one more time) that O.S. 91 FX looks great sticking out that Tiger Tail IVs nose AND its functional.

Got all my finish primer and paint ready to go so now begins one of my favorites... a sport/pattern ship paint job,be it ever so humble-[8D]

Replying to me self again not good......

Finish primed and lightly wet sanded with #400 then 800 cleaned the surfaces with Klass Kote solvent ,then mixed Klass Kote White with gloss catalyst ,let set about 20 minutes per instructions and then gently went over the airframe with a tack cloth, loaded my new DeVilbiss STARTING LINE HLVP touch up gun with 1.0 tip and shot the thing ... Now for the trim scheme.

Thanks guys ,I really appreciate it.

After an over night 'cure' it looks like a flaw on the top wing will have to be fixed[&o] Next all surfaces get a very light wet sanding with 800 grit or perhaps finer immediatly followed by a second coat of White Klass Kote, which does seem a bit translucent.maybe I thinned it too much but I have my doubts on that. ..

I think I "fixed" the flaw on the right wing and built up a good layer of primer over the offending area. I wet sanded the entire airframe minus wing which gets the treatment next build session.

The KlassKote finish is only limited to your finishing skills and I find it an excellent 2 part epoxy paint with acception of what I notice as a (translucent) paint and I do find that problematic;then again it might just be me not mixing portions correctly :especially the thinning stage of the paint and the set up of ones spray gun. I know one thing this second coat I'm about to apply will an interesting if not tense building /painting experience[&:]

So if I mix say 8 oz and then ad 8ox or 50% Klass Kote reducer it is thinned too much? would appreciate your comments ASAP as I'm spraying the second and final coat of White today-

Thanks RAM

Did I say that I wet sanded again catching a couple runs and wet wanded them starting @ 220 and progressing to 800 grit wet/dry used wet and then wiped it all down ,made a fixture to hold the ailerons AND then wiped it all down with 91% Alc .,the compressor ready to go but the "Sun was low[&o]

As I answered in the PM, if you have 8 oz of mixed epoxy paint (4+4) then you only need to add 4 oz of reducer. But you knew that already, I posted this for the benefit of others reading here.

Then again, each sprayer is different, each person shoots differently, this is only what I found to work well.

Well more good weather for Maryland so I finish coated the Klass Kote white mixed about 1-1-1 ( the instructions suggest 1-1-1 or less,on the reducer, depending on spray equiptment;in any event I'm satisfied with the results of klass Kotes Gloss White finish coat that I applied to the ENTIRE airframe [X(] weight So presently looking forward to a trip to the Auto paint and body supply and selecting the trim color . I might add here the new DeVilbiss "starting Line" HLVP touch up gun exceeds my current painting skills and I guess thats a good thing[8D]

Any suggestions for vinyl type masking tape like 3-M??
