Default Need Help to Install Tail Rotor blade.

Well I broke the tail rotor blade on my Cpv3. It's a press fit on to the motor. I've already broke one new
blade trying to push it on and probably have messed up the second one because I drilled it out a little.
The fit is so tight I think it would take a 50 ton press to push it on the shaft. Then the motor would be
crushed too. Anyone know the proper way to do this without causeing damage to the motor. Any ideas
are welcome. Thanks.

Hi, I had the same problem Be very careful. I broke one rotor trying to put it on. Second try with new blade was enough force to pop out the back of my rotor moter. The way to do it is lay the heli on its side and support the back of the rotor motor. Press the rotor on as best you can the tap on with a small hammer. A block of wood will work for support on the back side. Once you get it going you just tap tap tap till the beveled side is flush with rotor box. That is the only way to do it with out popping your motor back plate out. This method works.. good luck.

propjetdriver

I beleave I found a better way to install the tail rotor. I used a 2" c-clamp and a piece of balsa wood
1/8 x 3/4 x 3/4. Put the piece of balsa on the opposite end of the motor for support then tighten the
c-clamp enough to start the blade on the shaft. Then back off and get everything squared up again.
Then press some more. Make sure you keep things squared up. Do this 2-3 times and you there.
Worked good.

Hey, That is some good thinking ! How long have you had your axe? What probs have you had so far? Hey, now what do I do with my small hammer? I like your method. I talked to heli-max and they kinda recomend the small hammer. If any of you new cpv3 folks read this, make sure you support the back of the tail motor or you will ruin it like I did.

Actually the guy I work with came up with the c-clamp idea.

I've had the axe a little over a week now. This is the first heli I've ever had. Been flying planes for
26 years and though I would try a heli. A couple of the guys in the club have heli's and it got my
interest going so I decided to give it a try.

The tail blade brakeing and the main blade screws getting loose are the only problems so far.
The tail blade broke when I was runing it in the grarge. I was ripping the tail back and forth try
to get a feel for it when the tail blade just broke. Not sure why it really broke.

Put the new blade on and took it outside today to lift it off the ground for the first time. I lift it several
times but wasn't able to keep much control. Got up on the tail one time and broke another blade.
Could have been a lot worse. Put another blade on and tried a few more times. My head was
starting to spin and I was losing my concentration so I stopped for the day.

Ya funny.. same thing happened to me. I just happened to be in an aircraft hanger as I was going to hover it for our mechanics. I was spooling up and gave it a couple whips and "SNAP" for no reason... It threw a blade. All the maintanance guys checked it out and the rotor had mold defects. I saved mine. A small in the base of the blade that snapped. Small hollow hole at the base of the blade if that makes sense. I am glad it didnt hurt anything or anybody. I will only fly it outdoors right now after having that happen. I think they have a cheap supplier for rotors ..lol An other thing. There is no way they test fly these things before shipment. My flybars were 45 degrees off. the paddles. One lock collar was stripped, the set screw. The tail rotor motor was not tight. The tracking was not that far off. The pinion gear was totaly clean as have never been run.. haha .. Oh well. Company support has been good so far. I'll let you know in about a week. I know one thing about this heli. If you can fly it around like its nothing than you can fly any rc heli. That comes from experience. I am just kinda getting into this heli and am going to post as it goes. The thing acually flies nice for its size. It hovers almost hands off once you get it out of the rotor wash. It has done good in wind so far. Actually very good. Its like having a cute little dog that doesn't crap everywhere but gives you a nice challenge.. .. more to come... -greg

I got about 40 flights on my cpL . I have burnt the main motor and the Tail Motor. I installed the HM4000 HH gyro and thats what got me Hovering. I can Hover nose out and left-right. I have not tried nose in. I got the DD tail setup from the CPV3, I liked it but the tail motor was getting a lot hotter with the dd so I put the gear drive back on and it runs much cooler. Cooler means the $20 tail motor will last longer. ( I Hope) Besides the motor problems I am pleased with my axe.

Does that fly better with that gyro on it?
