I cleaned up, re-arranged and added wing and stab core templates to my copy of the Escape plans. I also added a 6" scale to the title box.

If I provide you with the mods that I made to the original airplane in 1985 could you make those changes on the plans? Most the mods I made became what Bridi called the Great Escape but I never actually had one of those kits to look at.

If possible, I'd love the Great Escape plans. Hey Bill, How different was the Malibu (the .60 sized version)? Same wing and stab as the Great Escape as I recall - can we get plans for that??

Here are the mods I made to my original Escape's

1-Install 2-1/2 inch spinner and contour nose to match. Original is 2-1/4.

2- 2 degrees of down thrust, about.

2-Raise F-2 at the wing L.E. 3/8-1/2 inch. These two items make the bottom of the plane look flatter.

3-Lower the rudder hinge post 5/8 inch. Requires additional fuse side splice.

4-Extend the front of the bottom dorsal fin so its starts directly below the fin leading edge where it attaches at the fuse.

5-Build the stab straight, install so the stab T.E. centerline is centered on the fuse height at the rudder hinge line.

6- Bottom of the rudder, make parallel with fuse top.

7- Remove counterbalance from rudder and install to fin cap to overhang rudder. 1/2 inch tall.

I have some pictures of the original, I need to have them scanned to be able to post. I'll see if I can get that done.

the great escape has 1/16 sheeting for the wings and 1/8 fuse sides going to be pretty light

I think you nailed it, great job. I cant remember if I lowered the thrust line but dont worry about that. Do the original plans show how much down thrust is in the engine? I know we had to increase it just a little to keep the plane from pitching to the canopy. Of course we didn't have adjustable anything back then, dark ages. I will take a set of the revised plans if I can. Does anyone have a canopy to make a plug and mold?

Thanks Bill. I drew the thrust line at neg. 2° which is what the plans show. What I posted was sort of a rough sketch until I knew it was correct. I am working on a final drawing now.

I finished the new fin/rudder drawing. This is really the only drawing needed. The nose and belly mods can be done by simply cutting a new 2 1/2" ply nosering and sawing 1/2" off the bottom of the former at the wing LE. The added area to the bottom of the fuselage sides is a straight line from the rudder hinge line to the bottom edge of the former at the wing's TE. My plans already show 2° of engine downthrust.

I can send this as a separate file to be used with the full plans. It is 20" wide x 12" tall.

Anyone know what airfoil the Escape uses? I need to cut a new set of cores and it would be much easier to pull the airfoil into my cutter program from a digital database than make a tracing and go that route.

I'm not sure if I already mentioned this in another thread but Rainedave has been absent recently from the forum. He is and has been always extremely generous with his excellent CAD work and I'm sure that when he returns he'll be happy to discuss this project further with the rest of us. The modifications for the Great Escape are quite unqiue I gather and for those who have a kit (or want to scratch one), it is a nice option.

On another note, it appears that the thread where we were discussing your work on the Aurora (45 and 60) has gone amiss. If and when you feel starting a new one with any work you may do toward molds and glass parts, I'll be eager to follow.
