[:@] I sent this guy my check for $225 the day after Christmas for an AT-6. He cashed my check and all I've gotten in return was b.s. and a ton of aggrevation. I contacted FLYRC magazine where his ads were posted, but his last ad was in December (which I unfortunately read.) If anyone else has similar trouble with this guy, I would like to hear what it is...and ideas of what we can do to get our money back.

Cohen has had full page ads in FLY RC magazine in 2008. He sells (or at least he claims to sell) CRCC-PRO engines and the generic China Models Products Extras, Texans and Corsairs. See FLY RC magazine Dec., 2008 on Ppg. 117 as a sampling.

I typed http://www.rconly.com and got something in Chinese (I think).
A Google search for 'rconly.com' returned mostly titles like "RCOnly = crappy"

I bought a CMP Pro Extra (50cc size) from him about a year ago here on RCU. When I received the plane it looked ok at first but upon furthur inspection, found that the fuse was badly damaged, cracked and chipped from the landing gear platform forward. I contacted him and he said he checked the rest of the planes in his inventory and they were all damaged but he had a new shipment coming in the following Tuesday. He indicated he would send a replacement shortly after. Well thats the end of the story, no returned emails or phone calls from that point on. I spent almost three hundred dollars on that plane plus an additional amount to re-fiberglass the front bottom. Am I ticked off? You bet and would love to talk to him face to face.[>:] Joe

That is why you use a credit card and not a check.

Gee whiz, meter man... how nice of you council us dummies with your kind and considerate remarks. I only wish that I could reciprocate in some way or other.

Joe, I share your wish, but I did the next best thing today...I filed a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov ) and formalized it. Hopefully, if others who have a grievance against him or others of that ilk, would follow the procedure, something can be done. I don't expect a reimbursement after all...but it's better than nothing.

what he states is pretty obvious.... i would NEVER send a check out of state or to a small company. credit card only. double warranties, buyer protection, membership rewards, all manner of benefits and protections. i don't think he meant any offense. i ALWAYS win in these situations with my platinum AMEX and there have been many instances. it's so simple it's ridiculous. i call amex and dispute the charge. most often case closed. occasionally i go back and forth with amex in the middle but i've always won. there's not much more satisfying than someone telling me i won't get my money back and then i remind them i used amex.
anyway, good luck. wish i could help more.

How easily we can go off on tangents...the purpose of the thread was to find people who were affected by this guy...not how I should or should not have paid him.[sm=72_72.gif]

You don't mention what kind of B.S. your getting or where it was shipped from or where you sent the check, so I'll guess your plane will ship from China.
I've dealt with Hobby City numerous times and you usually have to wait a a minimum of three weeks for an airmail shipment, and the first time I ordered it was 5 weeks before I got my stuff.
If you sent the check to China it will be a minimum 1 week before they even get your check, add 14 days for the check to clear and your already at 21 days. Your plane is going to have to be shipped seamail so plan on another 6 weeks before you even think about getting it. Then it has to make it's way across the U.S. which will take another 3-4 days via the P.O.
I would be patient for a bit longer as your only at 30 days or slightly more right now. Start to panic about the end of Febuary. Shipping from China is not like shipping from Tower.
Then again I could be totally wrong.

Good thought...In this case though, the guy is in Boynton Beach Florida. I was given to believe the plane was being shipped from there. After a couple of weeks of prodding for info., he claimed there was a delay with HIS warehouse in L.A.(?) From the getgo, he evaded my frequent inquiries about shipper and tracking info. I got two short, irrelevant "replies" and nothing else. If you have access to FLY RC magazine, take a look at the Dec., 2008 issue on ppg. 117 for his last ad. If I can help keep others from getting 'serviced' by this guy, then I'll be content.

I was ripped off for $265.00 from this clown. Check the forum in Giant scale, the go tho the Gas engines then find the thread about Sy props. Jim Stanton started the tread and many other people have been cheated by this clown. We both wrote to FLY RC magazine about him and they should pull his ads forever. Maybe a class action lawsuit might be in order for MR Cohen.

Paul...thanks for the input. For awhile, I thought mine was almost an isolated incident. Iwill try to find the thread you talked about. I went on Google and found the website for the Boynton Beach Police Dept and filed a complaint with them, as I did with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (see their web address above.) I respectfully suggest that we who have been victimized should report to the local "gendarme" and let them know what's going on in their bailiwick. Intriguing as a class action suit may sound, the only one getting money out of the deal...if in fact there was any money available...would be the lawyers.
I hesitate to suggest it, but it would seem to me that if there was any chance of recouping our losses, perhaps FLY RC's errors and ommissions liability policies might be called into play. Chances are, if we had seen Cohen's ads in a less 'professional' and prestigious magazine, we'd not have put misplaced trust in his shoddy operation.

Skyflyer, Best of Luck in whatever you do to reclaim your losses. IMO, you, a consumer, placed your business trust in the provider while giving the provider the benefit of trusting him to be an honest gentleman, same as yourself. When any individual disregards a business trust, no matter what it may be for, and then acts dishonestly, then IMO that individual is a criminal and should be treated as such.
I, too, have been a trusting individual and have had the rug jerked from under me, resulting in significant financial loss. OTOH, somewhere there is a guider that has provided me with both the courage to remain honest and above board with my dealings, and all losses have been overridden with more than adequate results. So, stay your course regardless what advice may be sent otherwise, although I am sure the above stated examples are meant in the best of intentions.
Again, you were honest, you have a right to expect the same, and the best to you and whatever action you take.

Skyflyer,
I just read the thread on the Gas engines forum, not a good thing. I would be all over this guy every way you can think of, from the sounds of it he will deliver something if you hassle him enough. Thanks for the warning on this scumbag.

Hello All,
I'm Tom Atwood, editor-in-chief of Fly RC magazine. We wanted to share with you that RCOnly contracted to place five ads with Fly RC in 2008; our accounting department reports that RCOnly has not remitted any payment for those ads. Moreover, RCOnly has gone into collections and the matter is now in the hands of an attorney. We wanted the facts to be known

The web site is www.RConlysite.com. That is the website in this discussion. He charged me twice for the same AT-6 Texan. I put it on a mastercard and after a month still no plane. I called mastercard and filed a dispute. Then I call Mr. Cohen he said he did not have any AT-6 Texans in stock. I told him I filed a dispute against him. He said he will have one shipped from California. 2 weeks later I get the plane. Them 3 months later he charged me another $265.00. I made no other purchases from him. I called my mastercard and wanted to file a dispute about the bogus charge. The bank said they can not dispute the same charge twice.. We went round and round, the bank would not budge. I called mr. Cohen, he said he did not charge me, Google did, so it's between Google and your bank. Every try to get a phone number for Google.? They don't have one! I emailed Google, 2 weeks later I get a reply. They did not initiiate the charge. So who did? Anyway I'm out $265.00. A couple of days ago a buddy in the flying club I belong too said he bought a Cosair. and guess what, He bought it from RC only. I told him never deal with this guy. My buddy sent him a check. and Barry Cohen hammered it as soon as he got it. Here it is 5 weeks later and no airplane. I sent a letter to all the club members "do not buy anything from rconlysite.com" you will get ripped off for sure! Well that's my 2 cents worth.

Greetings all, boy am I glad I came across these postings. I spoke with Barry Cohen today at rc-only regarding a CRRC 26 cc. He told me to send him a check for $200 and he would send me the engine plus a spare prop. I live on a rural route so I put the check in my mail box. Fortunately the mailman had already been here so I just went to the mail box and got my check out of the mail box. I dont need the headache! He did tell me that he had been in the hospital and that there had been some problems and he did not take credit cards or paypal hence the reason for check only. I guess these posts just may have saved me $200.
Thanks guys
Thanks guys

If I might ask, did you see the ad for RCONLYsite in FLY RC magazine or elsewhere? If he has ads elsewhere, then those periodicals should be made aware of these threads.

I found his web site while doing a Google search for CRRC engines, incidently I received an email from him this morning it was in response to an email that I had sent him. His email is in working order. It is as follows and you must type the full address, by just entering [email protected] it will not go through you must type,
[email protected]<[email protected]>; I advised him that I had done research on his name and business and found many disturbing posts regarding his failure to fulfill orders and poor customer service. I advised him that it would be in his best interest to go on to this forum and make an effort to redeem himself. It will be intersesting to see what happens.

I ordered two airplanes and one 26cc engine three months ago, after waiting for about a month I got an engine. I called Barry Cohen and he told me the air planes would be sent in about one week after the engines.
I was told by him both by phone and by email the airplanes were in stock. He owes me $384.00 or one CMP 76" Corsair and one Hellcat. It has been 3 months now, Slow as I am, it finally sinks in that I been took!
I recently checked his web site and he has added to it. he still shows my Corsair and has added a beautiful Zero stating "IN STOCK", very familiar words. Also, he has added two insurance company's to the site. I pity the poor soul that may need to collect from them! How can we get this guy shut down so other folks don't get skinned as well? He gives Florida a bad name. I don't really want to deal with anyone from florida from now on.
I recently stopped bidding on a Saito engine from Canada because I got to thinking, I live a long ways away and like this clown from Florida, I am nearly 5000 miles away. How could I deal with them if things go wrong? I live in the high Cascades mountains in Oregon and it is a hundred miles round trip just to go to my bank in Bend Oregon. I fly out of a meadow that often is shared with elk and deer and I also fly off the high lakes. The only thing spoiling my fun is people like Barry Cohen of rconlysite.com This man is not very honest it turns out and I am just an ignorant old man. Times are getting tough for everyone and we don't need shysters fleecing the innocent! Thanks for listening and if anyone knows where I can get the plans for the TRI-SQUIRE that was made by MidWest in the 60's I would love to get my hands on a copy of the plans. I will pay for your expenses of course. Thank you, Steve.

HalfFlaps, you live in the most beautiful country in the world! La Pine, Century Drive, Sunriver, the Deschutes, Bend. I'd love to live there someday, and if I am blessed down the road I will. Sorry you may have lost your money with this guy.
tcoupe24 said something interesting when he said this guy Barry Cohen told him he didn't take credit cards or PayPal hence checks only. I have to ask, why not? I set up a PayPal account and got a Buy Now button in less than five minutes. You could close your eyes and fall off a log, bump your head and still get a "Buy Now" button from PayPal it's so simple. Then I went to the website and there actually is a PayPal button, but when I clicked Buy Now it said, "This recipient is currently unable to receive money." Yeah no doubt that's the case.
