The blue fuel is no good..

I had a little talk with one of the RC veterans who has been in this hobby for 30+ years.
He used to be part of the Mugen company and have extensive experience in designing and modifying nitro engines.
I don't know why he hates the blue fuel.
He is using Tornado fuel which is really expensive and urge me to stop using the blue fuel. Either get the red fuel or something better.
Any thoughts.

Traxxas sucks for the most part, but the newer blend gives decent performance with the same one way bearing killing power. Every LHSin my area HATESBlue Thunder, I don't know why but it has a very bad rep over here- I'd rather just stay away. Plus Ican't buy it anyway since no one carries it

IHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATE Blue Thunder!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never been able to, or seen anyone else, get an engine to run properly and hold a tune on Blue Thunder. I'm not a big fan of Top Fuel either, but I'll run that anyday over Blue Thunder!!! I would say the guy you were talking too that told you to stay away from blue fuels was absolutely correct. I've never had a good experience with a fuel that's blue in color. I never really thought that the color made a difference, but maybe it does. I like running Nitrotane Race(it's clear)personally. Everything I run is run on 30% Nitrotane Race. Stay away from ANY"sport" fuel. I never have issues starting, engines last a long time, and it's super easy to tune with. I've also heard that Byron's Race Gen 2 is the best fuel their is, and I belive it. Unfortunately, none of my LHS' stock it, so I just stick to Nitrotane; I've heard from many thatNitrotane's the second best fuel anyhow.

I have had good results with Traxxas fuel.It ran nice and cool and left a good smoke trail.I got 13 gallons out of a engine using nothing but Traxxas.I think that each individual engine may like diffefent fuel. Some engines will run good with Traxxas and some wont.I had one engine that hated Byrons fuel, while others loved it.The color of the fuel has absolutely nothing to do with the quality.I will agree that Blue Thunder is not that great, but there are several pink and red fuels that arent worth a crap in particular engines. You have to find what fuel runs good in YOUR vehicle.Just because Sidewinder works good for me doesnt mean its going to work good for you.If the fuel is black and runs good in your engine, then run it.

Blue Thunder uses cheap synthetic oils in their fuel which is less protection. The only Blue thunder fuel I would use is the HP8 formula. Traxxas runs extremely hot on all my engines without good performance. Remember, oil burns hot (so a 16% fuel would run alot hotter than a 9% fuel) and nitro burns cool (20% hotter than 30%) so I like to urn 30/9 Byron blend. It runs amazingly cool (race tune is about 210 degrees) and has tons of power. So I say Byron gen2 is first, then Nitrotane is second like Barber said.

I have heard BT fuel will cause your oneways to slip like crazy due to the gobs of dye in it. I run Sidewinder 10% oil 20% nitro, when I switched up to 12% oil for a change, the engine ran hotter and performance was a little crapper. Now I run Sidewinder 10% oil. The good range for oil is 8-12%. Anything over 12% is pointless and causes more issues than help. To a newbie it doesn't make much sense but like Chris said, it does after a little while. I have run sidewinder with good performance. Sometimes I think fuel choices come down to personal opinion over price. In theory they are "all the same" just some act differently than others.

They are NOT the same at all, small variations in the ingredients used and percentages make all the difference. How could you even compare something like Top Fuel and Blue Thunder to Byrons or O'Donnell's? Thats right, you can't cause the latter is in a completely different class. Byrons and OD have always been my favorite, Sidewinder was great too. Eager to try Nitrotane and Maxy's. Never tried BT/Trinity/Rocket Sience/Wildcat.

Dyes doesn't do anything for your rc engine's performance. Its all a marketing trick.
If you dont have any clue abour RC fuel, which one would you pick if you are in the hobby shop.
Wouldn't a blue fuel (or other cool colors) attract your attention?
Only purpose I could think of, is to identify the liquid. So it could be distinguished from other liquids that we may have stored at home.
Od's are almost clear, a little yellowish, but I dont think they did that on purpose. Best one I've tried.
I had left over blue fuel before, left it for a long time, and the dyes actual settled to the bottom of the bottle. (That couldn't be good)

I think the dye is useful so you can see through the fuel line when priming the carb and also, you can see it in the tank so you know when you are running low. I like Blue Thunder as it seems to run cooler than Sidewinder, but I can't get it easily. I use Sidewinder Race, and it seems fine. Backyard Basher I avoid at all costs. Engiens run way too hot and are touchy to tune. As above, I suspect the high oil content causes this.

I have used both Traxxas and BlueThunder. The BT fuel was good but I have found way better performance with Maxy's fuel. It is clear and it is awesome. I will not run another fuel. I know its hard to find but if you find it you will not be disappointed. You will also notice an increase in performance and the one way bearing won't go to crap either.

I love Maxy's, best fuel I've ever run, and seems to be the favorite of nearly everyone at Mills Pond.If I had to run a diffrent fuel tho, It'd be O'Donnell

I went from Traxxas "oil soup" to Byrons 25% and didn't have to shim the engine. I can tell a noticeable difference and while using it you don't need to put ARO in the engine.

Personally I like Sidewinder raceblend 20% with 12% oil. It holds tune and no after run oil needed! It's fairly cheap too! $29 a gallon @ LHS, cheaper if ordered online though!
