A few weks ago, a RCU member announced that SIG was releasing a scaled down 4*. Couple of us felt that this might make a nice home for our .30 size 4-strokes. ........ I've had a LAZY TIGER, with a Saito .30 in it, since I've first got started in this hobby (4 or 5 years ago). Very robust plane & has taken a lot of abuse. The 4 LB dry weight doesn't allow for a lot of verticle, but it can do fair size (not LARGE) consecutive loops, rolls, & cuban eights (when I don't screw up). Not exciting, but just a good stable "LAZY" flyer. .......... A lot depends on what kind of performance you're looking for. ................... George K.

Sadly, the Slo Poke has been discontinued, but you could find one around I'm sure.

It needs a bunch of nose weight anyway. "Please also note that depending upon your engine selection the model may require some noseweight. Do not be concerned about any nose weight additions required up to 8 oz. This model has a HUGE wing and a light wingloading and such additions are not critical to its flight performance."
I have one I bought all built up and I just recently
bought a used HP VT 21 that's going to go on it.
Also, the Cub .20 kit would be good:

Ah, but does the world really need another R/C J3 Cub?
And, just discovered, IT'S ALSO DISCONTINUED.......Grrr, glad I got one.....
That leaves the Taylorcraft:

The .30 size four strokes are such an odd-ball size - they don't quite have the umph to fly .25 size models spiritedly, and their a bit overweight for .15 planes.... (Maybe an electric to glow conversion of some sort?) That's a tough one, I know, I have three of the lil boogers!
Do let us know what you come up with, OK?

I am in the process of scratching out a mid-wing
similar to a Hots with 360 sq. in. It will weigh three
pounds, give or take a few ounces. It would be a
rocket with a good .25 but it gets the little Saito.
I'll post a photo in a couple of days, give or take
a few ounces.

Bucker Jungmeister BU-133 by Gordon E. Whitehead 40.5 In WS RCM plan 856.
I second the new SIG 4-Star 20ish too: not for using that plastic cowl, build it up!

TONS of choices if you scratch build. All those great old designs from RCM, etc. originally intended for .19s. Radio gear is much lighter now, and little 4 strokes will pull them just fine. A Saito 30 is about 1 ounce heavier than an old 19 with its muffler. No problem. Miss Bikini, New Era III (RCM), Titewad (FM), and yes, those wonderful Gordon Whitehead scale models; many, many others.

My ARF choice of the moment would be the E-Flite Pawnee

I like the Ag planes! They make several others that could do.

Have to go with the new 4 star .20.
A .30 4 stroke should replace a .20 size engine right? I know the new 4 star is being flown at Sig with an Enya .19 and the airframe looks big enough to handle a 4 stroke .30 . Iwill check with Bob.
Have to agree with the high nitro in the little .30, I had one in my hands for a while (Magnum .30) and it sucked on anything less than 30% nitro.

if you want to plan build, Bipe Flyer has a thread with some plans he made of a Pitts S2S specifically for a 30 four stroke.

I am currently building one right now becaue I too have a saito 30 four stroke that needs a plane.

Just spoke with the Bob at Sig. He says the new 4 Star is a "builders airplane" and if you want to build it with the nose cheeks is is easy peasy.
And he felt the power of the Mag .30 or similar would be just about right. You might have to move the battery back a little for balance but it should handle it fine.

I had a Cub with the OS .30. It was quick and surprised many at the field. World Models used to have small Cubs in this size. That was what mine was. Loved the OS .30. It was an inverted installation and it started up every time without having to invert the airplane.

My dad did this (Eflight Pawnee) with a .26 Surpass, and the motor couldn't have pulled the skim off of warm milk in this airplane. It's a really large airframe, has a Supertiger .40 on it now.

why not go with the GP 1/12 combat planes. i flew my spitfire on the OS 30 and the Saito 40. flew very scale like. a 9x7 on the OS and a 10x7 on the saito. I latter did some mods to the OS 30 with the car version cam, springs and carb. and would turn a 8x6 APC at 16,000 very close to the OS 25ax

A Saito .30 is easily the equal of a classic era .35 - turns a 10x6 at similar RPM to an OS 35S or Fox .35, and with muffler comes in at a similar weight.
For C/L, I'd consider putting a Saito 30 in something like a Twister or Ringmaster, and people have successfully flown Noblers with them too ...
Don't underestimate what that wonderful little four stroke can do.
In terms of more modern engines, consider the Saito to be an equivalent to an OS FP 20 or 25 ... same mount pattern as well (also same mount as the Enya SS25/30/35).

I was in the same situation a few years back when I bought a HP VT.25 4 stroke. Couldn't find an airframe for it.
I ended up scratch building a 70s era high wing trainer intended for a .19-25 2 stroke.
The 4 stroke flew it beautifully. It was great for putting round the sky on a Sunday afternoon.

45 inch wing, 395 sq. in. weighs 41 ounces. Saito .30
with four HS 81 servos and an HS 85 on elevator. It
is one piece with all servos mounted in the wing and
a hatch on the belly. Maiden will be tomorrow.
