Default MVVS BEARINGS

I was told by someone that the original bearings used in MVVS engines are low quality bearings and should be replaced.

Was this ever true with MVVS engines?

I own an MVVS 77 that was purchased about 6 years ago. It is NIB. Should I replace the bearings?

And how does the MVVS 77 engine compare to the OS 91 FX?

One of the reasons I like MVVS engines is that they will run on low nitro.

My friend runs 0% nitro in all his engines with good results. 22% oil (2/3 Klotz - 1/3 Castor).
(with this fuel it is very hard to damage an engine if you have a very lean run).
I run what ever fuel I can get my hands on... but I will add oil if needed. (cool power fuel I will add about 6 oz of castor)
But I like low nitro fuels the best. Or no nitro. I used to make fuel from scratch.. but I don't have a place to store methanol anymore(50 gallon drum).

Default RE: MVVS BEARINGS

Aray,

I think I understand where that came from...

The first MVVS Q-500 engines were essentially normal MVVS .40 engines, with all the same parts, except for higher cylinder-sleeve timing numbers and the larger (old) #3219 carburettor.
It had the normal set of C3 rated bearings, like its regular .40-.49 siblings.

A large distributor of MVVS used to prepare the Quickie engines for higher RPM operation, by replacing the so-called 'normal' bearings, with C4 rated, phenolic retainer 32-38K RPM limit [link=http://www.wib-bearings.com/en/products/standards/st_2_roul_1_met.htm]Swiss WIB racing[/link] bearings.

This distributor no longer does this, since the Quickie now comes originally equipped with these exact bearings.

But the rumor remained. In the entire time I am dealing for MVVS, I got an order for one (1) rear bearing for a .49, that burnt up and needed a piston+sleeve too, after being used with very sub-standard fuel.

I hope this answers your question and relieves your doubts.
