the 3800KV should be alright. You can use the trex 450 se motor and that will work too. You should get a motor that meant for 450 size heli.

john, you did not catch the part of my mail that said neither of these motors will work because of the way the 450le frame is made.
look at the frame of the LE and you will see what i mean. it looks like the frame is designed for an inrunner motor

The Alpha 400 is simular to the motor I am using. It is a direct fit. It has plenty of power for mild 3D on 3s. Here is the link to it,tho it shows out of stock now....

http://www.nitroplanes.com/al4003brmo.html

XHeli has the Alpha inn stock.......

28mm should fit, unless it's too tall. Here it the one I'm running now........

This the only place I see it in stock.

Hope this helps, Ron

Ron,,thanks for the help, but i believe that the alpha 400 would be very similar to the mystery 4200kv at 28 mm in diameter, which is to wide to fit up into the exi450 LE frame. (the width of the LE frame is 22mm and the motor dia of 28 mm is 6mm to wideo) do you have the LE (limited edition)or one of the other models?

I'm not running the LE,but the Alpha motor shoud fit.(see the link I posted) The LE has open frame sides & the Alpha can is tapered on the mount side To clear the narrow part of the frame side. That is the recommened motor for that heli. The motor I'm running will probably have the same issue as yours, But unless they & other sites are miss-leading the Alpha should fit.

I almost got the LE ( I really like that canopy!!)But I wanted to stick clsoer to the original TREX V2 design.

Good luck, Ron

Ron thanks for more info on the LE, i had not noticed that the alpha 400 was tapered, and will have to check it out to see if it will fit, that would be very nice if it would and it's not an expensive motor, thanks again....Dennis

the alpha 400 will fit ok but the shaft is a little short but you can move the pinon gear up and use some locktite. Yes you can't have the set screw on the cut off on the motor shaft.
