Well I've been flying for 3 years now and currently regularly fly a PZ Stryker brushless, PZ Trojan and PZ P-51 BL. Flying each is second nature and I have plenty of stick time on each. There are four nitroplanes EDF's I'm interested in and was wondering which would be best for my first EDF.
Exceed F-4E 64mm
Famous F-4 70mm
Famous F-16 64mm
Famous F-16 70mm
So I guess the questions are. Better brand: Exceed vs Famous. Better frame for first EDF: F-16 vs F-4. Better size for first EDF: 64mm vs 70mm.
Or…some other suggestion I haven't even seen or thought of yet.

A 70mm F4 is going to be a much better first EDF versus the F-16.
The wheel stance is wider, the plane has better stall and landing characteristics, etc.
The larger diameter also means a larger easier to deal with plane.
Be prepared to do the following:
- Get at least one or two other higher capacity battery packs.
- Break in, balance and check out the EDF motor and blades.
- Bench test it for flight times.
EDF's do not have air being moved by the motor over their control surfaces, so you need to come in hotter and let the plane come up to appreciable speed before taking off. They also get mushy or uncontrollable if you let them stall.
The F-4 is least prone to this.
I find that these planes fly best when you use a transmitter with Exponential, so I usually use my own Transmitter and Receivers even with the RTF versions.

Ohh…definitely. I'll be using a Spektrum DX-6i with an AR500.
That's one reason why I went with a Stryker before and EDF. Although it's a prop plane, it's a pusher. So I don't get the prop wash over the control surfaces. It's also fairly quick, PZ claims 80mph though I doubt that. Maybe in a dive with a strong wind helping it along. I'm guessing more like 60mph flat and level no wind.

You should have no problems.
Just check out the power system before you put the plane together.
I break in the EDF before I start doing anything else with these planes.
It saves a lot of time and grief if you encounter anything wrong.

castrol,,,,, I have both the Famous F-4E and F-16 70mm EDF jets. I love them. The F-4E is easier,,,,opjose is right on with his evaluation. The flight times with the 4S 2200 batteries are about 4 minutes at full power,,,,,5 1/2 is you throttle back for most the flight. If you want an upgrade batteries for these,,,I got this; HYPERION G3 VX 2600 MAH 4S 14.8V 35C/65C LIPOLY PACK. It fits perfectly in both jets and gives you better power and about 2 more minutes flight time.
And yes,,,,about 20% expo will help the handling!!
I like the F-4E better. I also have the Famous A-7 but I can't find it anywhere now. The A-7 is 70mm also with no gear,,,hand launch only,,,,,but it is way faster and better handling than the F-4 or F-16.
Hope this helps!
