You seem to be the go-to guy for NitroPlanes questions. I found a free shipping code for $50 in replacement parts, but when I tried to order them, I couldn't get the shipping deal. I need a couple of landing gear for the Swallow 90. I have one of those, as well as a Quest 90, and the gear appear to be the same!

Had my Edf f-35 jet for about 3 or 4 weeks and I love it! But today before I even got in the air the jet stopped moving on takeoff. Apparently all the fan blades had snapped. Motor still turns just fine. Can u please send a replacement?

If it can't be removed and replaced without opening the fuselodge I think it's only fair to send a new one out as well.

The rotors are available as parts on the web site.

Remember that you must balance EDF rotors and "break in" the fans using proper techniques, including and not limited to sanding the fan tips to obtain proper clearance.

That kind of defeats the purpose of "Ready To Fly". I shouldn't have to take an rtf jet apart and sand the blades. Please send me the replacement blades and I will take the thing apart myself.

No, such is the nature of RC stuff.

"Ready to fly" means "ready to put a few hours of work into it".
ARF = Get ready for 20 hours plus
Kit = Spend a year getting it together.

RTF stuff needs to be prepped, trimmed out, and gone over throughly.

Newbies often do not undstand this and if they have no other help they therefor do poorly.

I'm not gonna stop buying stuff from you guys (yet), cause you have good stuff at good prices.

But man, that's awful customer service - and obviously you don't care. Bad advertising too.

If you've been flying helis, you know the first thing you have to do is to go over them COMPLETELY.

Often applying locktite to all of the screws, etc.

EDF's are no different, and if anything they require more attention than regular prop planes.

This has nothing to do with "service", rather newbies need to come up to speed on EDF's... that is one reason I personally do not recommend them for beginners. They are more of an intermediate plane.

Can you please point me towards a link for breaking in the edf and balancing the rotors? I may just buy a whole new f-35 from u guys and keep the other one for parts. Unless you can recommend a better edf plane. I chose the F-35 based on Dave Herbert's review.

But the best write-up I've seen was in "Sport Flyer" magazine, I believe it was in the October 2008 issue or before then.

They went into all of this stuff in detail.

Basically if you CAN, you should try to balance the rotor on a magnetic balancer. In the article they used small amounts of tape on the inside of the rotor to balance it. They also gave details about checking the centering of the balancer itself to avoid problems...

At worst if you cannot remove the motor on a new plane, you find the point where the tips approach the shroud at their closest point.

Then you place initially a single piece of sandpaper under the tip, between the tip and the shroud, and while immobilizing the sandpaper, turn the rotor over until the rotor moves freely. Then insert a second sheet on top of the existing one and repeat.

The idea is to remove about 2mm of plastic from the tips.

The blades expand quite a bit because of the high RPMs.

2-3mm clearance is needed to prevent rubbing, motor overheating and blade breakage.

Once done, tighten everything back down, and run the motor up to 50% for a minute, let it cool down for 2 minutes, and repeat slowly increasing the throttle to about 80%.

Let the motor cool for a few minutes.

Once you get there, place a tiny bit of oil ( I use WD 40 ) on a rag and wipe the inside of the shroud.

This makes any scored areas seem to dissappear.

Now run the motor up to full for no more than 10-15 seconds.

Look on the inside of the shroud and see if there is new scoring ( the plastic will look far lighter because of the oil darkening the untouched areas ).

If not, repeat for another 10-15 seconds and check again.

Once you see no new scoring you are done. Go fly.

If you do see minor scoring, repeat the sandpaper trick.


Then the last test again.
