OS CZ-2 Rebuild
I've acquired a Kyosho Stinger MkII that has an OS CZ-2 or a CZ-R engine (I'm not sure how to tell them apart, but I think I have the CZ-R carb). It has been sitting for years, and has seized up. I'd like to rebuild it and get it running, but the CZ-2/R seems to be like a ghost online - virtually no info. Does anyone have the manual as a PDF? I've read that I might need to replace the connecting rod with the CZ-R model - any advice? Was there ever a pull-start or electric start available for the CZ-2/R? Am I better off just replacing the whole motor? Any drop-in replacement suggestions?

I'm also wondering if I could drop in a modern 12TG or 15CV-X while rebuilding the old guy. Does anyone have experience with this? Are the crankcase mounting dimensions the same?

The cz2 and czr are basically the same engine. The cz2 had a starter cone on the back for a standard rc airplane starter. The czr did not. I think the crz may have had slightly differentry porting for more power. Good luck finding parts other than bearings as the engine is about 30 years old. I have two czrs on stinger mkiis and they still run fine. The one did break the weak con rod. Company called rpm used to make a replacement that was much stronger. The stinger had a ratcheting zip starter. I always bump start mine. Start looking on ebay.

IRB is correct. The CZ-2 And CZ-R were identical, except that the CZ-R had a carburetor more suited to a racing application, and of course the rear start cone assembly on the CZ-2.
The only way to locate parts would be to find something on the 'net on one of the selling sites or model forums. O.S. no longer has anything for the CZ-series of engines.
We'd not know if the more-recent engines would be a "drop-in" fit, or whether you'd have to do some "fiddle and fit" to make it work.
