Default 91 FX

I just purchased a 91 FX. I have not run it yet. After putting on a prop I tuned it over as if I was starting it by hand (without a glow pug attached). When the engine bounces back off the compression it has a ticking noise as if the connecting rod is tapping the inside of the crankcase. Is this ticking sound normal? My 46 FX makes no such noise.

The 'ticking' noise you hear is most likely the ring tapping against the ports in the cylinder liner. It's common with large engines. You'd not likely hear a rod because the oil would cushion it.
