Did they tell you also that only 44.5% of our electricity comes from coal? The rest is nuclear, gas, and renewable sources... I do not think your fist statement hols water either...

too bad recycling and making batteries are far more harmful than the emissions that come from refining gas and then burning it for the lifetime of the average car, also the coal used to create the electricity to charge the batteries produce far more pollutants too.
learned that one in college.
natural gas and diesel-electric are the most earth friendly choices, but we choose to ignore them.

The Leaf would travel further due to the simple act of the Earth attempting to reject it, resulting in faster rotation of the Leaf wheels as the offended planet tries to spin away from it.

you can believe what you will, but as of now, you are polluting the planet more with a EV or hybrid than the average auto, the average car's emissions is very low today, sure EV power is 0 untill it needs a recharge and once that battery goes flat, now you have to recycle or dispose of it, which is very bad for the environment, plus, when that said battery goes bad, and the car is old and not worth the money, now you have a whole car wasted and now you have to make a new car and more batteries.
EV are not ready yet, the range, efficiency and battery chemistry is not there yet, we are doing more harm than good, now excuse me while I get into my "clean" 78 chevy.

Was it about high performance cars at the beginning?
I kid, I kid...

There's a C-class that I'd like.. the C63 w/ the 6.2L V8.. that sounds quite good, actually!

Actually.. hydrous-ethanol and hydrogen-based fuels are the way to go. Not that governments would allow that...
Read about the differences between E85 and Hydrous-ethanol. E85, the kind you need in the US, still uses 15% gasoline added by the oil companies.. whereas hydrous ethanol such as that used in Brazil is just ethanol and water, meaning no oil involved, just fermented sugarcane....

The 164 was a pretty good looking car..
Only car rated for flex fuel can use the E85, right? I never used that.. never seen it around here anyway..

Holden is releasing an electric car called the Volt here in Australia next year, I wonder if it is just a rebadged Chev.

you can get fuel from algae, we can do it, but no, oil is power in this world, that is why cars only get 40mpg instead of 100+ its all control, we just go along for the ride and believe that they are trying to make the world a greener place.

RE: Hyundai vs. Mercedes C230
Hydrogen would be one of the better ways to go IMHO. It would not be hard to shield a fuel system from impact, and I am sure we already have the right equipment invented to seperate the molecules, some kind of electrolysis or something? I will right more and post my research later, I am afraid I won't make much sense ATM, it is Labor Day weekend and I am carrying a heavy....buzzz.

The Honda FCX Clarity. You can get fuel for it at Shell stations, which means it only got through because they could profit and control the only car on the market. (Essentially)

Still a lot of $$$ at the moment... didn't they say the first generation unit cost a million dollars to build.. the current generation is still like $150k to build.. maybe in 10-20 yrs.. !
