I think we need to define the term "ricers" better..

To me, I thought it is for those cars that has really dumb modification..

A nicely done Civic w/ turbo / etc. (actually packing the power), I wouldn't say that's a racer!!

But if you just put a giant spoiler on the back of a front wheel drive car.... you might be driving a ricer!

I would love to race a proper Civic on the track. I dislike fart cannons, giant spoilers, most body kits, half butt paint jobs, big rims, obnoxiously loud subwoofers (not to be mistaken with a nice sound system), fake fog lamps, Honda Type-R emblems (red honda H symbol), heck I saw an Altima Se Type R the other day! Didn't even know they made those!

So those things define a ricer for me. Hondas make zero power and even less torque in stock trim so anyone who buys one and tries to racce it just doesn't know their stuff in my opinion.

LOL, yeah, drag racing?! No... ha!

The S2000s do well on road course, however... same w/ a real Type-R... (my college buddy got a real Type-R when we got out of college..)

If you talk like the guys in F&F or if you need to downshift in a straight line race then you're a ricer no matter what you drive.

Problem is for every 10 Type-R you see maybe one of them will be real. It's even worse in the U.S because you guys never get any true special Civic/Integra editions like in Europe and even Canada.

I really like the S2000. Hondas are great for road courses in my eyes, light great handling. Even I like the new Civic Si, although puting mid grade gasoline into a car that only get 197 HP and 125 lbs of torque and getting OK gas mileage isn't too appealing to me now that I think about it.

There's no magic formula.. it takes gas to make horsepower...

If you want 300hps, you probably need to burn a certain amount of gas per mile.. if you want 200hps, you burn this much.. etc.

Doesn't matter if it is foreign, domestic, high revving, low end torque, etc. (of course, I am speaking in general terms.. assuming cars weight similarly, as well as the gearing, etc.)

What I mean is the car should be more fuel efficient for the lack of power it makes along with requireing mid grade gas. Only gets an average of 26 mpg on mid grade. With engines nowadays that isn't very impressive seeing how they can do better in V6's running on regular grade gas.

The efficiency that you gain on using better gas (running higher compression) isn't that much...

Say, S2000, if it gets 26mpg.. (I don't know it off my head), makes 240hps or so..

Compare that to a V6 that has similar performance.. it is probably not gonna be far off....

S2000 doesn't really lack power.. it lacks torque... ha! But it is not too weak, actually.. at 230-240hps...

I was talking about the Civic. A 4 banger at 197 HP that only peaks wayyyy high in the redline and 138 torque. It requires mid grade gas and only gets 26 mpg. I bet if I looked I can find heavier cars with more power and same fuel economy.

But correct that the newer technology certainly would make things more efficient... the S2000 engine has been around unchanged for ages.. !! No doubt there's newer and better setup now..

Honda now has those cylinder de-activation on all the V6 Accords... (so when under small load, it only fires up 3 or 4 cylinders instead of all 6)

I like that better than hybrid.. ha!

Yeah... I am sure gearing come to play as well...

But I hear what you say.. like an Accord V6 can get 29-30mpg..

I wonder, though, how much horsepower is being produced at the speed which those mpg are obtained..

Like, say, if the engine was only spinning at 2200rpm at 65mph.. and say, it makes 70hps..

vs. the Civic Si.. at 65mph, it is doing 4,000rpm, and is probably making 85hps..

(all the #s above, I just made up.. just for duscission purpose..)

I agree it is not just the engine coming into play. Just something I noticed about the Civic. Seems to me if you are going to want that type of performance and are going to be using higher grades of gas, you might as well get a sportier car. Just my opinion (and my logic, ha!)

Time for me to look for a used Mamba system!

Ugg... The F-150 needs better shocks [:@]

Springs are too weak because it sags as soon as the wheels are turned and I have it set at the stock pre-load [&o]

Agree.. Civic isn't what it used to be... ha!! But Honda builds great engine and probably the best shifting gearbox... so those are hard to express in just #s...

Next time, try the shifter on the S2000.. it simply has one of the best (if not the best) action in all manual tranny!
