I set my camera up on a tripod and pointed in in the general direction of the action. I set it to manual and adjusted my aperture as low as it would go....which happened to be f/3.5 for this lens.
I set the shutter speed to 3 seconds......well I started with 5 sec, then switched to 3. I set it to manual focus and focused on a couple of shots, and then once I had everything how I wanted it, I used my wireless remote to snap the shots from then on.

Here is my complete exif for the first shot I posted.

If you right click save the photos, you should be able to view the EXIF data which will show the settings used. I know my fireworks photos vary, especially since I forgot the batteries for my shutter release cable at the baseball game. Most of the baseball game fireworks photos were taken in Aperature Priority, F11, for about 10 secs. However, the other set of fireworks photos on the Fourth were taken in Manual mode, F/8, at various times. Could be 8 secs, could be 6.6 secs., etc. I simply watched the bursts and triggered the shutter release cable on and off. If too many bursts shot of at once, I tended to stop the shot. I didn't have a black card/black something or I may have just covered the lens until the bursts slowed. ISO was 100 and/or as low as I could set the camera body for both sets.

One of these days I want to try the black card trick. I always forget about it. You have some cool shots by the way.

Are you gettings DSLR (digital camera) or a SLR 35mm? If you are getting a SLR you can just buy a decent cheap one on ebay for about 70 or so.

Tigger / Hawk,
Thanks guys - I really appreciate the info. I have been taking lunar shots and was thinking a similar fast shutter speed would be the trick - but it actually makes sense to have a longer shutter which gives the full burst. Just not something that is easy to practice shooting and if you are wrong on the night you end up with a lot of disappointing shots (be the way I could see my efforts going).

Those sunset photos are good shots for HDR, I bet they would look awesome, You can do a Single photo in HDR it doesn't come out nearly as good but still looks sweet, If you don't mind id like to try it to one of those sunset photos

Nice shot. Those things are quick.

Here are a couple RC shots that I liked. The mugen is my brother-in laws, and the losi is his sons. Notice the matching paint jobs.
