RE: Congrats sheograth!
I used to have a quite impressive egyptian beard there for a while.
I had to shave it off though as I found myself stroking it all the time.
(That sounded so much better in my head by the way.)
This is the only picture I can find of it at the moment.
You get the idea though.

Yeah.
Remember I sent you the link to my MySpace music page with some of my tunes?
All made in FL studio.
Also most of my YouTube vids feature snippets of either completed tunes or works in progress.
Am using FL studio 8XXL at the moment.
Awesome program once you dig a bit deeper in to it and start using it to its full capacity.

Yeh, I'm learning it at the moment, but its pretty heavy going. I have a musical background, so I'm not lost but I am finding it difficult, it's just not very intuitive. I used to play piano (badly) and drums (very well), so I'm hoping I might be able to make a passable tune soon.

Mistake no.1 that everyone (me included) makes when starting out using a computer music making program.
Never ever ever put pressure on yourself in the slightest bit to create "a tune".
Have fun, set up a couple of bars with beats, loop it, create a nice simple melody, try out all the different sounds, tweak the knobs, add effects, go crazy with distortion, reverb and what-have-you.
Spend hours achieveing absolutely nothing but getting to know the program.
That "passable tune" won't come until you're NOT trying to make it.

Yeh, I know what you mean, and that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm not even keeping riffs that I make. I'll spend 4 straight hours making a 16 bar section, then close without saving and start again from scratch next time. As you say, there's no point trying to actually accomplish anything til you know WHAT you want to accomplish and HOW you plan to accomplish it. Don't worry mate, I have a good approach to learning, even if I'm not the most patient person in the world, I'm trying to be.

Sheo, sorry for taking your congratulations thread wildly off topic. My apologies.
DVP, start an FL studio thread, lets see if anyone else is playing around.

Cool cool.
Keep it up, and if there's anything you wanna know about the program and can't be bothered reading the help section, PM me and I'll see if I can help.
TIP:
Once you start using the SLICER things will change forever.
Loading a drum loop in to it will enable you to create breakbeats a lot easier as all the kick, hat and snare drums are all in the one window.
It's also essential when chopping up vocal samples.
Will start FL thread.
