how ever 200 yards to the north is the city of lakewood. fireworks are legal there. so long as they're not sparklers, don't explode or go up in the air. fountains only.
sometimes i hate this over protective hippy run state

went skiing, bent a pole in half after attempting a switch 3, then got hit by a kid that wasnt paying attention and busted my neck, and broke my bindings.......... FML... Bad way to start off the new year, hopefully it gets better.

in long beach fireworks are illegal for some (stupid) reason.

An original M-80 contained ~3g of a flash powder composition, and it packed one hell of a punch for a consumer firework. Despite the DO NOT HOLD IN HAND WHILE LIGHTING FUSE warnings on the side of the devices, stupid kids would try to throw them, and many of them ended up blowing their fingers/hands off. Their mommies would of course blame the fireworks rather than the stupidity of their children, and insist that they be banned. We all know the power of delusional beliefs in numbers.
After they were banned, a pathetic limit of 130mg was set on the quantity of flash powder each device could legally contain. That limit was then further reduced to 50mg for ground devices.
Essentially, this means that all of the firecrackers you can legally obtain in the US and Canada are pretty lame. Even the larger ones that are marketed as 'M-1000', 'M-90', etc. are just small 50mg capsules inside a large clay casing. They are no more powerful than standard firecrackers. I've been making my own for 4 years now, and they are much better. With careful construction, I can make a device the size of my thumbnail that will outperform anything you can get in a fireworks shop.

All I know is I am glad the holidays are over!
Now I don't have the temptation of the Holiday food sitting around staring at me making a mockery of me!
Dam, I am hungry right now!
