Red Dead Redemption
Just picked up this game along with Alan Wake today, so far it's excellent. Only played about an hour and a half but I can already tell that it's one of those rare gems that come along every couple years. For those of you who don't know what it's about, it's an open world action adventure game by Rockstar, the makers of the Grand Theft Auto series, set in the wild west in 1911. Great storytelling, combat, horse riding, exploration etc. The graphics engine is also really good, wonderful environments, looks very alive and real. It's fun just riding a horse around taking in the landscape.
It's available for PS3 and Xbox 360, definitely a must buy if you own either of those. Both IGN and Gamespot have reviews, and both gave it high scores.

RE: Red Dead Redemption
That's no fun, but I feel your pain. I'm on my THIRD Xbox 360. This one's recent enough that it should last...hopefully.
By the way, I also got about an hour of time into Alan Wake last night, spectacular game as well. Amazing graphics and atmosphere, you really feel like you're in the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest. Controls and action are also tight and responsive.
I should be kept busy for a bit with Red Dead and Alan Wake... and I still want to pick up Split/Second and possibly Prince of Persia.
My wallet is going to throw a hissy fit.

one of my co-workers has been playing this game nonstop, which is saying alot because he isnt a "gamer" he had to buy a new Xbox before he could play. Xbox is my favorite system so far (i have all three and barely play them) but i lost mine a month in. i have yet to speak to someone who is on the first system ive been using an inter cooler on this one and havent had trouble in 1.5 years, but now the inter cooler is broken and i just bought a pre played left for dead 2. (fun game but mindless)

Left For Dead 2 is fun mindless gaming, It's great when you just want to play something fast for a short while.
Between Alan Awake and Red Dead, it's a tough call. Both are top notch but they're very different. Alan wake is a more or less linear atmospheric thriller action game, and Red Dead is an open world western.

RE: Red Dead Redemption
ok, just bought red dead redemption last night. I like it, although right now it seems more like pointless missions, then again that's sort of how GTA IV started out. i like the fact that there are more things to kill time with like poker and other mini games. i'd rather have cars, however

RE: Red Dead Redemption
It's the first game I've played that makes horse riding feel really natural and fun, most other games with horses feel weird.
It would be fun if there were some cars too though, it is set in 1911 after all so there would be a few around.

RE: Red Dead Redemption
Just picked up RDR last night and spent about two hrs with it. I have always been a fan of the GTA series even when it was on the original PS1 with the cheesy overhead graphics. I love this game!

Last night I finally got around to putting in a few hours with the game, its really great. Hooks you the same way GTA does, but it has more polish and substance. And riding around on horseback never gets old.
