OMP 80" profile Edge
Hello Everyone, How do you all like the 80” edge with a OS 1.60FX on the nose? I had to add so much weight in the nose along with the 6volt batt. I have seen the videos of the kit built edges. Could someone point me in the direction of an ARF video. Any help would be great. Thanks, Brian

The OMP video is OK but here is Dave "McDDD' showing how it's done.

RE: OMP 80
Brian,my edge has a saito 2.20 on the nose and i also need a extra 5ozs. to get it to the most aft cg,with a 2500 five cell.it flies tail heavy at that setting also, not to bad but the tail does drop on slow level flight.
i am still kicken around the idea of a gas engine of some sort weighing in at 45ozs.or a little more.
i got to say though its rock solid in hovers as it is now.
i am still trying different props to find the best one for the saito, the beila 20-6 seems like a little to much prop, next will try a apc 19-8.

Hey Closetguy, What kind of gas engine would you use? Evolution E35GT or a Mark 1.80 gas. I would not buy this profile again.. But, I LOVE my Hybrid on a G62. It ROCKS and is the best plane I have ever owned..

RE: OMP 80
i like the Evolution 40,but the price you half to pay is outrageous.you can still find the BME44's,that is one that i might try and it's the lightest in this class at 44ozs.
but that is only if i can't get the performance out of the 2.20 that i am looking for.the OS 160 does a nice job on the Edge and i do have one,so that mite be next.
i been wanting to build a OMP Hybrid but the kit is out of stock,so i just bought the Edge.
why wouldn't you buy another OMP Edge?

RE: OMP 80
Guys, I've found the perfect gas engine for the 80" profiles. The MT35 gas engine! This beast is the perfect option for the big profiles! It is beam mounted, 35cc has, super compadt and light! We picked up a distributorship for these at Toledo and have a few in stock. More details coming soon.

All right Mike, you know we'll need a proof video of one popping out of a hover. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: OMP 80
just to give this thread a bump.i been flying this plane now for a month with a saito 2.20 on 30% fuel. been switching props like crazy.started out with a Beila 20-6 @ 8000 rpm's,no good it wouldn't pull out of a hover at all! then a PT models 19-8 same thing and @ 7700. then i got a 18-6w apc and rpm's went to 9250 and i now have a pretty decent pull out,and this is with the plane a hair over 11lbs.in all honesty i think a os 160 would do the same if not better.
i like the plane just needs a better engine choice.

RE: OMP 80
You have the wrong prop for that motor. Get a 20x6 Xoar wood. RPM's don't matter except keep it under 9500. Pull is what matters.
Don't tune it for a nice smoke trail. Some of the newer fuels don't leave much smoke at all when tuned right. Get it tuned to max RPM -300 level and static.
220 should pull it around great.

RE: OMP 80
OS 160 with an 18-6 prop and beer can muffler gives me so much pullout it rivals the 40 size profiles. We like to do "Pogos" with the 80" Edge as it does them pretty well if you can keep it balanced on the vertical.

RE: OMP 80
i hear you about the pull.with the 20-6 Beila the engine sounded like it was over prop,in a hover it was doing everything it could muster up just to get the plane from falling out, and forget about pull out.engine is rite on the edge of being to lean, its only 200 rpms from top rpm's if i lean it any more the engine starts to detonate, and i been on the smoky side of rich and not any better.i will try your suggestion on the prop, but i realy think the engine doesn't have the power to spin a 20-6,at lease the one i have.
this has been a long on going thing with this engine.it wouldn't pull a Chip Hyde Tunnel Vision and i thought the weight was to much at 12-3/4 lbs.for the 2.20.so i tried it on a 11lb. plane, it's better but not what you would expect from a 2.20 on a 11lb. frame.
i had a Moki 2.10 i sold,i wish i would have kept it and got rid of this 2.20.

RE: OMP 80
Measure the thrust on the ground. Only way to tell if you are losing it in the air somehow or need some motor help. You should around 8000RPM with a 20x6 and be over 20 lbs thrust with a 220.
