What do you do with a dead Yard Bee?

-Splice it to a dead Dandy-

My Clancy Yard Bee had a non fixable crack up several weeks ago, but the wing was still ok. Not being the type of guy to throw away a perfectly good wing, I hung on to it.

I ripped away another wing in mid-air while abusing my Mountain Models Dandy last week but the fuselage was fixable, so I got this idea.

Will the Bee wing fly with the Dandy fuselage? Yep, sure will. Not exactly a relaxing combo...but fun and very aerobatic. Loops, inverted flight and pretty good in a breeze. Surprisingly stall resistant but a little "tippy" due to the short wing. Much like the original Yard Bee.

I'm using a Jeti geared brushless on the plane, so there's tons of power. It will hang on the prop...almost a hover.

The picture shows the set-up before I had fixed the rudder on the Dandy.

Rise off the ground take offs tend to be a little steep due to the fat wing, but the strong motor keeps things together. Landings are not too bad...fairly stable and no surprises.

uhm....how about "Bambi"?

I've used other wings on that Dandy fuselage too. That old beat up fuse has turned into a sort of "lab animal" where I try out different stuff. It's tougher than nails and tolerates hard landings thanks to my "industrial strength" landing gear scheme.

Experimenting is fun, and it helps me learn more about model planes and their flying personalities.

Here's a couple of pics of the fuselage with other wings and the same Dandy fuselage. The Mini Piper wing is very stable, but not very "lifty" so the power needs to be cranked up for straight and level flight.

The Mini Telemaster wing has almost too much lift, and the plane is a little hard to manage in the air, but landings are feathery. The control surfaces are a little small for that bigger wing. The real Telemaster fuselage mates really well with its own wing because the Tele has a much larger tail.

I've come to see that fuselage with 2.5 inches (wide or high) works best for me to accomodate my Kokam batteries. Which would be better in your opinion, 2.5 inches wide, or 2.5 inches high? Which would fly the best?
