Default E-Starter Engine Problem!

Hi,

I am completely new to this hobby and have just finished building my first plane, A GWS E-Starter.
A very experianced friend of mine flew the aircraft for the first time last week. After its first flight I had to make a few adjustments as it was a little tail heavy, not a major problem and fairly easily sorted.

However I am experiencing a rather worrying engine problem. When I am on full throttle the engine cuts for no apparent reason after about 20-40 seconds. If I then pull the throttle back for a couple of seconds the on again its fine for another 30 odd seconds. Obviously this makes it very difficult to fly the plane!

Has anyone else experienced anything like this???

Any suggestions of help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Sam.

Check the charge state of your battery pack, and check all the connectors in the path betwixt battery and motor. It sounds like the Electronic Speed Control thinks your battery is low, and is cutting power to the motor. This will preserve enough power for the receiver and servos for a controlled landing, and is called Low Voltage Cutoff.

Low voltage from the battery triggers the LVC in an ESC. If the pack isn't properly charged, or if a poor connection somewhere offers enough electrical resistance, it happens at the beginning of the flight, rather than at the end.

After the load is removed from the battery, it will recover a bit of voltage. In some ESC's the LVC then disengages, and you can throttle back up. Useful for stretching a glide back to the field, and confusing newbies with power issues.

Tell us what charger you're using, and how you're using it. And what battery pack; what you have may be unsuited for your purpose.

Hope this helps,

Steve

is the ESC circuitry cutting off because it is too hot? It may be at full throttle

Thanks Steve,

I am new to this so all a bit confusing at the moment
The battery I am using is the one that came supplied with my E-Starter. Its a 7 cell 400mAH 8.4V.
After a bit of research last night it maybe that this battery is usuitible???

The Charger I am using is a GWS-MC2002. Set on the 6-8 cell setting and charge so the needle is sitting on the 2nd bar.

I was going to try a better battery at the weekend, maybe a 8 cell 800mAH !
Do you think this might solve my problem? I am not sure!

Many thanks, Sam.

I bet its youre speed controll. Are you running at least a gws ics300? If not, then youre probably overheating the speed control
