RE: The Australian thread
David, No it isnt funny when people do these kind of things. You dont dont know what could happen when you are out flying. I believe that plane is now considered a weapon or "piloted" projectile. seriosly think about it......

Yep, this thread has officially gone down the drain.
Stop being a twit david and take the point off the front of your ugly-ass plane.

The Aero Ace is a different thing, that is one of the most populer rc planes and its helping get some new blood back into rc. Your plane on the other hand is a "toy" that is very dangerous and could seriosly hurt some one.

We're giving you advice david - take the point off the front of your plane or you risk hurting yourself or someone else. This is not a hobby for children and these planes are not toys.

RE: The Australian thread
Dabvid, We've already had a case with clovus (i know it wasn't on purpose clovus,) where a bird was injured, and he wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary, just a casual park fly in a park flyer.. You can say "oh it looks good", but the second someone gets hurt you'll be on here telling how sorry you were that you hurt someone..
On a lighter note, I got my parts on the arrival this week hopefully for my park decathlon, anyone else flown one of these?
They sound really cool with a gearboxed motor setup!

I don't see anything wrong with the landing gear, its more the NEEDLE point at the front people were trying to stop you doing.
This is a forum and people will always have different opinions, as it says while i'm writing this that "we encourage the free flow of your ideas", but not when they affect innocent people!

RE: The Australian thread
Dabvid,
On your question of Super Cub vs Electrafun I was going to give you some thoughts on the Electrafun - many of which you may have already heard. I saw the Hobbyzone Super Cub flying on the weekend - it looked like a fine plane, but depending on some conditions I would probably choose the EF over the SC as my *first* plane still.
The EF's body is high impact plastic, a carbon fibre rod, the cheapest electronics that will make the thing fly imaginable, and some high density foam parts for the wings and elevator/rudder. The parts which might feasibly break (the rudder, elevator and wing) are all available as reasonably priced spares (around $6 for a tail assembly, $12 for wing) and the kit comes with a spare wing, and a spare tail assembly.
My EF took some punishing impacts in its first flights and still flys just fine. Reading what others have said, others have done far worse to theirs and it seems to take the punishment just fine.
This is a tough aircraft which will let you get away with a lot of mistakes - I don't know the HZ SC well, but just looking at the scale looks and configuration, I just don't think it will handle impact.
In terms of flying the EF is predictable in the air provided the wind is low. Once you are experienced with it, flying in higher winds (well beyond what is recommended) is not only possible, it is fun.
When it comes to landing the EF has a few advantages (particularly if you leave the gear off) because it is so tough you can fudge the landing again and again with no damage - provided you get the speed about right and don't dive in from 5 metres the worst is force the wings off centre, which you correct by just recentreing them.
The EF has a nice big engine, and is quite quick given its trainer status - low level high speed passes are quite a lot of fun once you have the aircraft master. Loops and rolls (not victory rolls though) are possible, and a simple upgrade to a 9.6volt NiMH pack will give you a cheap path to a little more poke. One downside is that the EF is not really a slow flyer - it needs modest airspeed to keep airborne, and as a beginner you probably need at least a large football field to fly it comfortably. Once you have the hang of it, flying it on a smallish cricket field etc is all possible.
Anyway, that's all I've got time to write unfortunately - work beckons. Enjoy the choosing process - read the reviews on RCUniverse, read th notes on my site about the Electrafun if you want...

PS - to everyone, on the recent aberation on the forum, I suggest we just call it that and move on - this is a good thread - lets get back to it.
