I used to fly gas, I had an 0.15OS High wing trainer, and an 0.46OSFX high wing sport stik.
Now I'm in 4th year university and I want a plane to fly around, nothing too hardcore, nothing too expensive.
I'm looking at an AirfoilZ Yak, or similar narrow profile foamie with a wingspan less than 3 feet. 50-80$USD for the various kits
I gather that I'll want a Brushless Hacker A20-20 or similar & Brushless ESC (~100$USD)
I've got a transmitter (Airtronics VG6DR) and Reciever (FMA M5)
I'll need a LiPo Cell (11.1v, 1300-1500mAh) (3c?) and charger (120$) - FMA? ThunderPower?
and 4 Micro Servos (HS-55 or Eflight 27) (~55$USD)
... Can anyone reccommend cheaper alternatives to anything on my list, while maintaining a Narrow wingspan? (I don't have much room in my apartment to store it)
Can anyone reccommend other foamie-type small ARF/RTF kits, that will also be fun to fly indoors as well as out?
Does anyone see these come up used ever? I don't mind used. Most of my gear has been used, but I don't see used Brushless or Used LiPo/chargers or anything like that on the forum. Just really high end stuff (From what I gather in the description)
Bottom line: HELP THIS FLYBOY GET HIS WINGS BACK!

Have you considered the F-27 Stryker?
look at the following links
F-27B
http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Def...ProdID=PKZ1200
F-27C
http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Def...ProdID=PKZ4200
they both use the same body which costs only $20 after a bad wreck. motor mount $4 vertical fin $7-8 real cheap replacement parts.
here is link for some of the parts
http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Rel...g&SubCategory=
If you buy the fuse you can install your own gear.
check out the tread here
on Rcunvierse for the fast Strykers.

very helpful people on there to help you do the mods.
Good luck.

Yeah, I'd been thinking the stryker... but it's a lot of speed, and I don't have a lot of room (I live downtown, I was planning on park or field flying...)
Maybe one of the Micro-jets? They're discontinued, but at 45$USD, including a speed 400 motor...
The more I see the stryker, the more I like it.
Can you get it without a Radio & Rx? I already have a 6ch Tx with an FMA M5 Rx...

oh yeah,
look under the F-27B link and click on the parts listing.
here is the specific link with the complete body that you asked for.
http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Def...ProdID=PKZ1270
Do compare that with the individual pieces, not a huge difference, you may want to use your own stickers and or paint on the white body.
You can fly it slow especially if you keep the weight down. We flew ours safely at local school field (after hours/weekend) at speeds up to 80+ MPH before moving to more remote locations due to noise mostly (out of respect and consideration to others).
YOU WILL BE HOOKED.... repairs are real cheap and you may repair your body many times before changing it.
I have had the body in 3 pieces and I used some 3M packing tape and sent it back up, but hat was before I went brushless. The real repair was done later at home. I lost a vertical fin once, so what, I flew with one for the rest of the day.
My friend mangled his wing bad, I held it straight, he put tape on it and it went right back up. Often the day does not have to end after a bad crash.
I/we love this plane; I have stopped flying my 120 size 8 ch fuel plane for nearly 2 years now.
Ask about the important mods before you install your gear in there. Such as motor mount area mods, etc......
Remember this link for any and all help:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_37...page_98/tm.htm
You will soon find out what the dark side is all about.
Have fun, always.

I was actually thinking of the Stryker while still reading your original post, then Gryphon named it. I have one I bought used from a lhs for $40 complete then upgraded to a $12 brushless motor and $9 servos and a $12 ESC. I LOVE THIS JET.
If you want slow flyer for very little money, consider the Slow Stick from GWS. [link=http://www.balsapr.com/view.asp?id=V815101]BPHobbies[/link]. A powerless kit is $21. Then add your own motor/esc/servos/rx. The wing attaches with a couple rubber bands. It will fly at walking speeds and float around forever on a 1300-1500 mA battery.
[link=http://www.unitedhobbies.com/comersus6f/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory= 63&curPage=5]United Hobbies[/link] has great prices on electronics and batteries. So does [link=http://www.bidproduct.com/part/Product_list_MOTOR_1.html]BidProducts.com[/link]. They ship from China so it takes 12 days or so to get your order, but their 1350mA lipos are excellent for smaller craft. These off-brand electronics are the way to go for small park flyers.

Yes, highspeed, I got everything I paid for. And it ha all worked flawlessly. I think you would be hardpressed to find all American made parts in this hobby. But, to each his own...
